Pride Casino Smoke Issues

I've read about heavy cigarette smoke odors in and around Pride's casino. Due to health issues, I have to avoid cigarette smoke as much as possible, so I don't plan to hang out in the casino. However, looking at the deck plans, it looks like one has to walk through the casino to get from one end of the ship to the other.

Would anyone with smoke sensitivity please comment on the ambient smoke in casino-adjacent areas (sports bar, Red Frog Pub, Piazza Cafe, Atrium...?) as well as from just passing through the casino? I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

There will certainly be an issue in the casino, I have troubles in this area as well.  We have been on the Pride 5 times and all other areas are fine.  I can pass the the casino, but that is about it,.

I am sensitive to smoke and would cross on other floors to avoid walking through the casino, but did not have issues in any of the surrounding areas you named.

One of the great things about the Pride is you can go through on any level unlike other ships that I’ve been on where the galley or something is in the middle of some floors so you have to go up or down to go across.

Maybe I'm crazy but

I study deck plans quite a bit before I board a ship

I look for escape routes, exits, etc.

By the time I board, I know exactly where and how I'm going.

You lost me on this one....

I’m friends with a couple people who are ship level and VP level management

and there is talk of making the dining room include a smoking section

as well as opening up one bar to smoking.

.

Smoking area in dining room is un-acceptable!

and should not even be considered,

mainly because there is always 'creep' of the smoke

into non-smoking areas unless ventilation is carefully thought out

and engineered, which their casinos clearly haven't accomplished!

Many ships also have a cigar bar, in addition to the casino as a smoking area.

Go smoke there.

And no I'm not a snowflake, I used to smoke and actually enjoy

the wafting smell of a nice cigar (they are not all of them.. nice)

This will never happen.

In fact, the trend has been going opposite of that, over the past decade+.

The night club and some bars used to be smoking areas,

and no longer are. ===> Love!

MAYBE they add one bar, but I highly doubt it. ===> Cigar Bars do exist..

And you will see the casino go smoke-free

before you'd ever see a smoking section in the dining room. ===> More love!

.

I totally agree!

The casino is actually a pretty large area and the smoke is pretty well dispersed.  I have not noticed any issues with smoke in the adjoining areas on Deck 2.  BTW, I am not a smoker and spend considerable time in the casino.  If you have a real sensitivity to cigarette smoke then Deck 3 would be for you.  From my signature you can see that we have sailed the Pride and her sister ships quite a bit.  Love the Spirit class.  Happy sailing.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! I do have allergies and asthma that keeps getting worse. Smoke is a strong trigger for me. I don't mind changing decks to avoid the casino, but I wanted a feel for the creep into adjacent areas. It seems like that won't be a problem at all. Thanks!

I hope you have a great cruise.  The ship has something and spaces for everyone.  Enjoy!

Hey I can't see my post but just wanted to let you know that I wasn't calling you a snowflake - I just said a lot of people who complain about smoking tend to be. I would never doubt someone's sincerity of health problems.

I used to be asthmatic and had severe allergies as a kid until I started smoking. I quit for a few years and all the symptoms returned. Started smoking again and they went away. I know it is mostly unhealthy but there is medical evidence that it does suppress your allergies, I think a lot of ex-smokers who become sensitive to it have allergies that they don't know about. Not a doctor but that was my experience.

My friends said that some of the drydock or newer ships would be fitted with some of the air filtration systems they use in Asia where smoking in restaurants is still very much accepted and they work very well. I'm not sure why they wouldn't just add those to the casino but assuming it has to do with cost and the fact that the casinos tend to be right in the middle of the ships.

Thank you for that ^

I find it interesting enough

that I might pass it on to a hi-level Doctor friend of mine.

I'm not surprised, actually...that it has some beneficial aspects.

I have asthma too and while it's not so bad that I avoided that part of the deck entirely it is noticeable as you walk through the hall where the casino is located. But as soon as you passed the casino it was not noticeable at all.  At least not to me. I've had the same experience on each ship I've been on. If you just can make it past the casino it's fine. If they put a wall around the entrance it would help a lot.

We were on the Pride the week of March 3rd, it's one of my favorite ships. This time however the smoke was so bad that my youngest son and I both came back with sinus infections. We are both sensitive to cigarette smoke and normally go up to deck 3 to bypass the casino. However this time, we couldn't sit in the lobby or the Piazza Cafe without getting smoked out. They also moved the arcade to above the Red Frog and my son could only stay in the arcade for 10 to 15 minutes tops before he started coughing uncontrollably, the smoke was coming out of the casino through the Piazza Cafe and up the stair case. It's normally not that bad, however we had a few days of cold weather so I assumed that most smokers were using the casino instead of the outside areas.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make in my deleted post - the Pride in cold months is going to be smokier at the start and end of a cruise because smokers have no warm places to go inside other than the casino.

i haven’t sailed since the update but it sucks they didn’t add anywhere else for the smokers. Heck even bringing back smoking rooms/balconies would solve some of the problems. In addition to a nicotine fiend :) i’m also a gambler. It gets so frustrating in the morning and at night after dinner when the casino is full of people smoking and making everything more crowded/packed than it was designed to be.
