Live! Grandeur 4.18- 4.25.19 - Same Old Ship, Different Day

Our sea day was pretty calm for us, as we spent the day relaxing in the Solarium. Not too much to say about it, other than it went too fast.

Not much to post about the sea day, other than Susan wins little more than I lost.



Maybe I will catch up on our Charleston day, during our sea day tomorrow. We covered a lot of ground, and have a lot of pictures

That also used to be D+ and Pinnacle seating as well as Suites.  We sat there on previous cruises as D+.  We sat there a couple of times on the last (6 April) cruise since there were seats available 10 min before showtime.  It's pretty much never full until showtime.

We didn’t schedule any tours for Charleston, since there was plenty to see within walking distance of the pier.

What better way to start the day, than that chocolate breakfast in the MDR?

This is what they offered



I had the chocolate waffle with Carmel and banana toppings.



Susan told me that there were 3 waffles on my plate, and I said “No, that was 3 quarters”.

I have been working hard for my “before picture”, since the diet will start when we get home[emoji16]

Getting off in Charleston, you have to go through customs. Since we were on deck 3, our assigned time was 9:30. They were set up, and ready to go early, and they called our deck at 9:07. We took our passports, and what we would need for the day, and were through customs and on the pier by 9:23.

Note, that if you exit the ship from the facility, you can’t reboard until everyone has been through customs.

At the end of the pier is the Customs house

On our walking tour on our own, we would cover just over 12 miles for the day.



We turned left at the end of the pier and walked down to the water taxi pier. You can see how close it is to the ship



They have some swings here that get very popular later in the day



It looks like Sandy was listing a little



It was from here that we spotted our first dolphins.

We walked down the waterfront to the pineapple fountain



They were working on part of the waterfront, so we diverted and went to the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon



You can see the sun was shining brightly on us all day

We didn’t take the most direct route to anything, so that’s probably why we logged so many miles.

There are some beautiful homes as you walk along the waterfront on the way to the Battery

We found the Calhoun Mansion and Museum. It is the largest private residence in Charleston



Admission was $17 pp. We bought our tickets and joined the tour. The amount they had on display was overwhelming.

By now, we haven’t eaten for a couple hours, so we went to Fleet Landing for beer and sandwiches. It is located just left of the ship

 

 

Their specialty burger

 

 

And BLT

 

 

It was a good choice for sandwiches and drinks, and was around $50 with tip.

It was a beautiful day ashore, and the weather was mid 70’s.

Then it was time to get back on the ship and eat again. I thought it was strange that lobster night was tonight, and not on formal night.

It is a beautiful sunrise for our final sea day





The seas are calm, and there is absolutely no wind on the upper deck this morning

I went to the backstage tour this morning. It was interesting to hear about the life as a cast member in the shows.

We logged our early day on the track this morning, so now is a little relaxing time at the Solarium.

I heard they opened the roof while we were in Charleston. That makes sense, because it was hot and sunny.

Our home for the last week has been this tiny little OV cabin







The drawback about the cabin, beside the size, is the position of the bed. When the ship was rocking side to side those couple days, you felt like you were alternating between standing upright and on your head.
