This doesn't just apply to cruising, but if you aren't USING a slot machine, don't just hang out sitting at one.  The casino area on the ship is pretty small and is often really crowded.  Hanging out to sit next to your friend or to smoke when people are clearly wanting to use the slot machine is rude.

Oh my, yes!  I love to sit on the balcony at night.  In the dark.  Watching the stars.  If someone is out on their balcony and wants the light on, then that's okay with me. Please turn the light off when you are done. So many times the light gets turned on and stays on for days.  The occupants probably don't even know.

I agree that many people do not know their light is on. The first day the night was on all night. We ran into our neighbors going to breakfast and asked if they knew their balcony light was on. They said no and thank you for telling us, simple.

We have done the same.  I think that most people are considerate and don't want to disturb others.  I have heard of someone who wanted their light on in case someone came on to their balcony.  A bit paranoid, but it is their space.  (They were not our neighbors, just someone on the board in the past.)  I had one "neighbor" that didn't like being asked about their space.  We are overly polite, too.  In that case, we asked our cabin steward to please turn off the light if it is on during the day.  He did it.  They never noticed. Problem solved.

Mine would be:

1) Please don’t hog chairs.  Don’t put a towel on one and then leave it all day.

2) Proper buffet etiquette/hygiene.  Don’t touch spoons without sanitizing.  Don’t touch your face or mouth and then touch serving utensils.  Don’t use the same plate for multiple trips. And please, please don’t grab the food with your hands. 🤢🤢🤢

3) Keep your sex noise down.  Have your fun, but remember the walls are thin!

Buffet etiquette - I love long hair but I don’t love someone tossing their long hair out of their face while in front of me and my plate at the buffet line.  I wish they would be mindful of the person behind them as they flip their hair.

Hopefully myself and my daughters have never been guilty of this. I always make a big deal to my girls about keeping thier hair behind thier shoulders whenever they are cooking or dealing with food because I don't want their hair getting into food. I can picture them hearing my voice in thier head, mid buffet, and pushing thier hair back 😉

I can't come up with a wish list of gripes. I am sure that my fellow passengers have annoyed me at times, but I just don't keep a record of it. I do remember a family who always had their kids save seats for them all. I just sat somewhere else and wasn't too upset, but I did feel badly for the kids. They knew that what they were doing was wrong and against the rules and you could tell that they felt really awkward especially when the host would remind the crowd of the rules. I like the mention of door slamming because they can be pretty disruptive when you are just trying to kick back and relax. I had a neighbor who slammed all day long from day 1 of the cruise. I noticed that they had a white board and markers hanging outside thier door, so I left a note " Please stop slamming your door " with a smiley face. Never heard that door again all week .

Although this rarely applies to me, I would like people to stand back and wait the extra 5 seconds while a (ship) photographer is taking a picture in front of a backdrop, on the stairs, on the gangway, etc.  I see passengers walk right in front of a photographer while they are taking a picture.  Really I see it more often than not.

Elevator courtesy would be first on my list.  I'm able bodied and can fend for myself, but seeing frail elderly people pushed

and shoved is a big pet peeve of mine.  On our last cruise, several of us ran interference for a lady who had been pushed to the side.  It wasn't young folks doing the pushing, either.

I will yield to scooters, but some of the folks on those can be rude and entitled.  If everybody used their manners, things would

be a lot more pleasant.

While I am on a cruise, there are few things I actively avoid more than the elevators. There is no good coming from that area.

@cmukid87 I don't use the onboard photographer. However, I agree with you. On the reverse side of this. I wish they would set up these photo ups in more discreet locations. On the Fantasy in January they set up a back drop between the Majestic Bar and the Casino. It was right in the main thoroughfare.

Please don't bring your bluetooth speaker into Serenity (or any public place for that matter) and blast your music. Serenity has music playing in the background that fits the atmosphere, let's leave it at that.

While I agree with some of this the gangway is no place for photographers. People should not be held up while person after person blocks the gangway to get a photo. This can easily be done off the gangway so as not to hold other people up. That would be the more courteous approach.

Gangway was just an example.  This more happens in common areas of the ship where photographers are in place for a picture and fellow passengers will walk right in front of the photographer.

I'll take this farther to request that you also don't use your speakers on your balcony.  It may be your private space, but those of us in our private spaces right next to you, above you, and below you don't necessarily have the same taste in music as you.  And even if we do, we may not want to be subjected to it at that moment (I for instance enjoy reading on my balcony and don't like listening to any music while I do so).   Also, please don't bring your speakers ashore to the beach, unless it is your own private beach.  Headphones / earbuds are the considerate way to go.

I don't want this to come across as being rude but think about it.  If those four people didn't get the three bowls, that means that each of those twelve would be standing in front of you instead of the four.  You still wouldn't get served any quicker.  The workers would still be making twelve bowls.

We have no idea if the person is getting extra for their elderly parents or special needs kids. Really, just wait and it will be fine.  food will still be available for you.

1) Control your children.   Not all children, just the ones who need more parental guidance.
2) I am happy to aid the scooters, walkers, and wheelchairs load the elevators first, please be kind enough to not run over my feet as we're getting off the elevators.

3) Scooters sounding their horns do not have the right of way through the casino or the Lido.
4) Please shower between your beach/shore excursion and dinner in the MDR.  Your tablemates (and the tables close by) will thank you.

Cruise I just got off had dozens of kids running everywhere. Real nuisance. Scooters run you over frequently.

It would be a courtesy to all if gangway photos were taken on the pier only and next to and not actually standing and posing on the gangway. Others who do not wish to have their photos taken have places to be and are often on a time schedule. I don't blame the posers I do find fault with Carnival for permitting photographers to hold up their paying guests.

When standing in lines, please leave a bit of space between us.  I can't go any faster than the person in front of me, do not crowd right up behind me.

Young children unsupervised - at the ice cream machines, the drink machines, in the buffet lines.

Just general common courtesy - sometimes there is the attitude that "I paid for my vacation and will do what I want"  -   but remember, that we all paid for our vacations too.

1) We've experienced this at resorts in Mexico and our favourite resort actually polices this behaviour very well, with offenders having to retrieve their items from an office. It's too bad the ships can't do the same and instead leave it up to the honour system (there is no honour).

2) I'm in the Military and grabbing food with your hands is a huge no-no, which usually ends up with your hands being smashed by a spoon. Sometimes social embarrassment is the best teacher.

3) and don't do it on your balcony! (I've slipped "congratulations on losing your virginity" notes under doors before).

The kids at the ice cream machines make me crazy.  I have noticed that it's much worse if there are two or more together.  I'm not sure that their parents realize how disgusting and rude their little guys are.  Being an ex-school teacher, I have been known to speak to them as I did my students (polite but firm).  Believe it or not, the majority of the time I get no push back from the kids - I must have that teacher look and sound (lol).

I really wish people behind me in line at Mongolian Wok would stop giving me nasty looks when I order for my friends. Why should all of us have to do an incredibly boring activity when one of us can handle it for all?

Good one. 😂 🙌But I'll still be giving you dirty looks when you pick up 3 bowls.

In general, people just need to pay closer attention to their surroundings. Some people seem completely oblivious. People on scooters especially. I have been run into/over so many times on a cruise! Also when lined up for an event, show, dinner, whatever, if other people have been patiently waiting, don’t come out of the elevator and expect to be first in line just because you are on a scooter 🤦🏻‍♀️. This happened SO may times on our Journeys cruise, and let me tell you there are a LOT of scooters on those!

I have a few!

Stop smoking on your balcony! You know darn well it's against the rules. I will report you every single time. On the Victory on the first day while there were signs everywhere about not smoking outside because of refueling, our balcony neighbors decided to smoke. I went in and immediately called to report it. Next day, while we were watching sail away from Key West, they were out on their balcony loudly complaining about cry babies and "whiners about smoking." We continued having our pleasant conversation about what we were seeing etc. Eventually they gave up and went back inside. And they didn't smoke on their balcony again.

Chair hogs. Seriously--we could all have a seat if everyone just used the chairs when they actually want them. I saw a lady move stuff off of two chairs on Serenity. Sit there for about two hours (with her husband) and then get up and put the stuff back. Never did see the owners arrive.

Serenity--look up the meaning of the word. It does not mean to bellow to your friend and engage in raucous laughter. Ugh.
