Nessa1dc Posted April 24, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2019 I don't know what happened, but somehow we booked another cruise. We are sailing on the Grandeur, out of Baltimore on August 31, 2019 (5 night)...I do have some questions... Please note we are Diamond Plus members and we have been on Grandeur a couple of times...but not always the same...so.... 1. We are thinking of driving to the Port and parking. Is the garage next to ship? Pay before or after cruise? $15 per day? Secured? 2. We normally have balcony, Jr. Suite, or Grand Suite...this time we are doing an Oceanview (no balcony)....it was free. Are we going to be in shock? 3. We are sailing from Baltimore. Last time, the didn't allow the casino to open until the day after debarkation. Is that normal? 4. We are going to Bermuda (Kings Wharf)....we are staying at the port overnight. Is the casino open while at the port? 5. Any must do Tours? (please note we are the get on the bus type of people. Nothing strenuous.)... Thank you all in advance.

The casino is open in the evening while docked in Bermuda.

dodgestang Posted April 24, 2019 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2019 1. We are thinking of driving to the Port and parking. Is the garage next to ship? Pay before or after cruise? $15 per day? Secured? - Pull in, porters unload from your trunk, then pay for parking, then park, then walk into terminal. Makes it very easy....and makes leaving even better. 2. We normally have balcony, Jr. Suite, or Grand Suite...this time we are doing an Oceanview (no balcony)....it was free. Are we going to be in shock? - Probably. 😉 3. We are sailing from Baltimore. Last time, the didn't allow the casino to open until the day after debarkation. Is that normal? - yes...it takes a while to get down the Chesapeake 4. We are going to Bermuda (Kings Wharf)....we are staying at the port overnight. Is the casino open while at the port? - yes at night 5. Any must do Tours? (please note we are the get on the bus type of people. Nothing strenuous.)... - What constitutes strain? Crystal caves is a bus ride away and then a walk down 40-50 steps to see a cave. Beaches are a cab ride away and then sit in the sun. Hamilton is a ferry ride away. Personally I liked half day reef fishing and sunset pirate cruising.
shipgeeks Posted April 24, 2019 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2019 There is parking right at the ship and terminal. $15 a day, cash or credit card. It is open air, not garage, secure, and well taken care of. (We've seen snow removal done just before arrival; probably won't affect your cruise.) The entire process is easy; attendants at every spot to direct you to luggage tags (if needed), luggage dropoff, parking. Enjoy your Grandeur cruise; we always do.
Nessa1dc Posted April 24, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted April 24, 2019 Thank you all for all the great information..... 1. I think we will park. 2. I kinda knew that not having a balcony would be hard on the spirit....I'll just have 2 more cocktails...I'll be fine. 3. So it takes a whole day to get out the Chesapeake...DANG 4. Good to know that the casino is open in the evening. 5. Thank you Dodgestang....we are likely not going to do the caves, and we don't do beaches...we like to get on the air conditioned bus and be told to look to your left and look to your right. They may stop for 5 minutes to buy something or look around....then back on the air conditioned bus to look to the left and look to right....I guess what I'm trying to say is...we are lazy.
dodgestang Posted April 24, 2019 #7 Share Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) The pools and hot tubs are always mostly empty when in port unless its raining 😉 There's a cute glass blowing place about a 5 minute stroll in the port from the boat. They also sell rum cakes there....but they are a hot commodity and sell out early. Edited April 24, 2019 by dodgestang

mac1_131 Posted April 24, 2019 #9 Share Posted April 24, 2019 Hey some of the best part of that Cruise is cruising down the Chesapeake especially when going under the bay bridge. You must be topside for that. I think you'll still find the cabin nice. Yeah no balcony so you have to do topside but the rooms are fine. Bermuda is a blast. Make sure you go to the crystal caves.

SRF Posted April 24, 2019 #11 Share Posted April 24, 2019 1. Pay as you arrive. Cash line tends to move faster. Right next to the terminal building, but you can drop off carry on and others right at the building before you park. 2. I don't know if you will or not. 3. Royal Carib will not pay the gaming fees to MD or VA, so you have to be out of those states waters. FYI, I understand Carnival does pay the fees and casino is open earlier. 4. I think so. 5. If you haven't been, Horseshoe Bay is nice. No excursion needed, just walk the end of the pier and say Horseshoe Bay. Minibus is $7 per person each way. Drop off and pick up right at the beach.

I love driving to Baltimore and parking there. SO convenient. First time in Bermuda? Take a general excursion that takes you around the whole island. Since you are there overnight, you can also walk around King's Wharf and see the glass-blowing place, the Frog & Onion Pub, a couple of museums, and other nice things that I can't remember right now. 😄
Lady Hudson Posted April 24, 2019 #13 Share Posted April 24, 2019 Joining you! Got the offer yesterday and was on the phone to Casino Royale within 15 minutes. Good offer and paying just taxes and port charges. Usually don’t like to do just 5 days but I couldn’t resist. Katherine

Katherine It cost me $202...I couldn't just let it go....and we go the upgrade because my Husband and I are both Prime....although, this is a lot...we did a 8 day in December 2018 (Grandeur), a 7 day in March 2019 (Anthem), now a 5 day August 2019 (Grandeur) and a Back to Back - 14 days in December 2019 (Adventurer)....it seems a little indulgent, but...oh well.
