Just off Sunrise

Hello beacha,  we were also on this sailing.  I can answer the sea day brunch and it was the updated menu as well as the deli.

We went and toured the updated gym and spa area.  Does have cloud 9.  I thought the new infrared and aroma areas were neat (did not use but was cool looking in)  I think it was a lavender scent in the aroma spa.  Looked to have the sauna available for all which was in the area of the locker/bathrooms.  All new equipment in the gym which we used but TV screens didn't work yet.

TV station selection were not good but that didn't matter to us, but did miss the ship and map cams.  They never got those up and running but hopefully they will on future cruises.

USB ports were at the the head of our bed. We used and were convenient.  We had a inside forward with window deck 7 but would assume they were in all cabins.  Fridge in our cabin was new and small,  we stacked a 6 pack in ours so not sure if 2 packs would fit,  not deep at all,  like 1/2 size as we've had in the past. Mattress was very comfy, but sheets were a little itchy,  guess they haven't been broken in yet,  lol.

Didn't like having to check in for anytime dining each night on deck 5 and then on to seating on deck 3.  We were on the Vista last year and being platinum we were able to skip the check in and go straight to dining room.  Can't do on Sunrise.

We thought the shows were the best we've seen on Carnival.  Singers were very good and they had the upgraded tech lighting, etc.,  We cruise NCL often and are use to the better production shows, but  Carnival has done a good job in the Sunrise on their shows.

Chris Williams the CD was awesome.  Hilarious and he did his own show in the theater,  and he put on a great show.  We had never seen a CD that active on our cruise.

Casino was very smokey  as they usually are on Carnival.  Pig and anchor was good, they were closed one day due to maintenance issue.  The worse was the restrooms in public areas.  They stayed out of order 80 percent of the time for the first few days.  Guess they finally got it straight, and seemed to hit the women's bathroom more than mens.

Thanks for all the great info. One question. You say there were USB ports at the head of the bed. I had asked someone else either in one of the sunrise threads on CC or on Facebook and they said there were no USB ports in the room. Could the difference be based on what type of room or even deck? We are on deck 6 and have a standard balcony room. I’m hopeful we have USB ports. They are such a convenience.

How was the food in the MDR?  If you have any menus can you post a few?  Thank you.

We ate in the dining room three times. The food was very good.

Sunrise aft 3 for Anytime dining.  We ate in the dining room each night and it was hit or miss.  Our flat iron steak was better than the prime rib.  No taste and was tough, and we had it two nights during the week.  Most of the appetizers were good.  The brisket on night one was excellent.  Oh,  I had a baked potato most nights and they were not good. It just had a stale taste and maybe it was the type of potato. Creamed potatoes were good per my DH.   Some food came barely warm while others nice and hot.  Service was very good.  I think for the inaugural sailing they did a good job.   The Red Frog Pub is big (heard it is the largest of any ship) plenty of seats and layout is good.  Alchemy bar seemed to be a popular place when we passed by each might.

I know many people didn't care for the serenity area, but we were happy that they did install one (did not have before) there is a large hot tub.   We found the aft pool area and hot tubs were nice.  We never saw any kids  when we were back there...so it's nice for adults. Of course that can change with each cruise, especially if you sail during the summer. Thought the pizza was not as good as on other ships.  Atrium is small and can get crowded during an event.

I cannot answer why our cabin had USB ports and others did not have them, but I would not book the 4J room in the future.  Too loud with the side doors slamming as anyone can access the doors to go outside to the front of the ship and they don't care what time of night it is or early morning and did not know how to close the doors without slamming.  Also, the crew doors are right there across from these type rooms as well so some of the door slamming could come from them, too. We sleep with our white noise from our phones but that didn't really help.

you say the casino was very smokey. if you were in the casino, do you know if smoking was allowed at one end of the casino bar? or was it just at designated machines?

I know smoking is allowed at the casino bar because we always saw people there smoking but not sure about just at one end.  I did not notice a non smoking section, but there could have been. There are 3 Non smoking tables.

Glad to hear everything was up and running for your cruise!  Which dining room is any time dining?  Thanks in advance.

Hi there!

Your Time Dining was in the Sunshine Restaurant 3 Aft. It was a lovely atmosphere.

The casino is a designated smoking area in all ships. Many people go there just to smoke. If

it like the others, the whole area will be a smoky haze. The small non smoking area will still stink.

Yes, it was very nice. We had a spa cabin, so we used the steam room and sauna every evening. It was never crowded.

did the spa area as one of the whirlpools like on the Splendor?

Smoking was allowed everywhere in the Casino. It was the only place on the ship where folks could smoke at night. It was designated on one deck outside, but at night it would have been cold and windy. We spent several hours in the Casino each night. The smoke was thick, but it’s allowed so that’s that.

Will you have the daily handouts for what all was offered on the ship each day? I'm interested to see how those compare to NCL. The 2 cruises I've done so far have been NCL.

Here's an example of one.

Questions regarding the lunch time buffet...did they have barbeque spare ribs, dedicated Asian section, sandwiches made to order?

Thanks!

Sorry, I don’t know about lunch places. We didn’t eat lunch. There is a Bonsai restaurant on deck 5. I saw Guy’s Pig and Anchor on deck 10 aft. There was a deli, but I didn’t look at the menu.
