trio on the move Posted May 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2019 Has anyone done this itinerary in August - wondering about rough seas. Although we’ve taken numerous cruises and have been on the Solstice, Reflection and Equinox and have never had an issue on these boats in regards to sea sickness - we have encountered rough seas on slightly smaller boats and some of our party has had some issues with motion sickness. Just wondering if the North Sea and Irish channel can be rough in August.
whitbob Posted May 16, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2019 We did this cruise last August on the Silhouette. We did not find the either crossing to be rough. We did have high winds and rain one of the days while in Iceland, but the ship was docked. We may have been very lucky on the weather during the crossings, but that was our experience. We really enjoyed the cruise, it was a first time in Ireland and Iceland.
Rare villauk Posted May 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2019 Are you sure you’re not on Silhouette? Solstice is in Alaska during August. You never know with the North Sea what you will get. A few years ago on Infinity, two weeks after our friends’ cruise (they were on Eclipse), we had fine weather yet our friends had an awful time with the weather and seas. It’s impossible to say how rough it could be.
Yorkshire-Pudding Posted May 16, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2019 Like Whitbob, we completed this cruise last year. The waters were not rough but there was a definite change in temperature once we sailed beyond Scotland and entered Atlantic waters.

Saab4444 Posted May 16, 2019 #7 Share Posted May 16, 2019 (edited) The ocean on the way to Iceland can be very rough indeed as this is where Atlantic and North Sea meet. Like Biscaya or Cape Horn. Edited May 16, 2019 by Saab4444
Sascol Posted May 16, 2019 #8 Share Posted May 16, 2019 Any talk about how the seas would be are pure speculation. There may be trends, but what's great one August can be horrible any other August or vice versa. Just keep this in mind.
