Booked Mardi Gras & Liberty B2B ?

We booked the Mardi Gras for its first sailing out of Port Canaveral October, 16, 2020.  We have a bunch of family going on this cruise with us.  My son and daughter in law are going with my two young grandsons.  They haven't had a vacation "away from the kids" (as I didn't also when my children were young, always looked them with me) but my son and I were speaking yesterday and a thought came up, we were thinking what about going on the Carnival Liberty for the 4 night cruise then getting off that ship and jumping right on the Mardi Gras.  I figured the Liberty cruise be the cruise I be the "grandma nanny" so they can have a few days to themselves.  Of course, they have breakfast and dinner with us and I treat them to a dinner or two at the steakhouse a couple of nights so they can have a nice quiet dinner together.  We do have some questions, yes, I am a very experienced cruiser, this week I be on the Breeze and it be my 90th cruise so far, but I have never done a B2B, always rather just have more cruises in a year than one long one, so I have a few questions:

 

For those of you have done a B2B:

1-  Did you find it was too long?

2-  I do recall going on 8 night cruises to really be tired of food by the 7/8th day, does this happen to you?

3- Do you feel it would be too much for children ages at that time soon to be 5 and 3?  The boys do go to restaurants with them, they are extremely behaved, but I feel maybe it is too long out of their environment as it will be a 8 night cruise plus the night before the cruise in Port Canaveral and they are driving from N.C.  Any thoughts?

4-  I assume they do not have a luggage service that would pick up or take our luggage from the Liberty to the Mardi Gras?

Technically, going on 2 different ships is called a side by side cruise.  We have done it twice.  The first time we sailed from Miami for the first leg, and then shuttled to Port Everglades for the second leg.  The second time, we advised Carnival of our plans and since we were sailing from the same port both times,  they personally escorted us with our luggage.  We were the last passengers off the first ship and first to board the second ship.

 

We never have a problem finding something to eat, and there are more eating venues than there used to be.

 

We have been doing 13-14 day B2Bs for several years and we're still never ready to go home.

 

I don't know if it would be too much for the youngsters.

Thats right side by side....but in Port Canaveral isn't the two ships in different terminals and there is  is quite a distance to walk between the both?

Technically, the term (Side By Side) is a term only used & made up by members here on Cruise Critic. 

 

The same applies for the word (Chogs) when referring to chair hogs. Another term made up & used by Cruise Critic members.

Liberty usually sails out of Terminal 5. Mardi Gras is going to sail out of the new Terminal 3, which is being built on the other side of the port. They definitely are not within walking distance of each other.
