How to tell if balcony view is obstructed?

Hi, I was assigned a balcony on the Jewel for an upcoming cruise. Our cabin is not listed on the NCL cabin topic so is there a way to find out if our view is obstructed?

As All-ready2cruise  posted your 9638 is not obstructed - some of the cabins on deck 8 are the ones with the obstruction.

 

A clue is where the lifeboats are located - when walking the Promenade deck (7) the lifeboats are hung overhead.

If you look up between the boats you may see port hole windows of some of these cabins therefore the obstructed view.

If you are at a port with tendering service the lifeboats will be lowered from their davits and you will see more of why

these are called obstructed view.

None of the balconies on the Jewel class ships (Jewel, Jade, Pearl and Gem) have an obstructed view because the lifeboats below are recessed.    There are some oceanview staterooms with obstructed views on deck 8.  Some of these views are very obstructed and a few have minimal obstruction depending on the size and placement of the lifeboats/tenders.

 

Here is rather long Youtube video of sister ship Pearl that gives a good look at the setup.  Starting around the 7 minute mark you'll get a good look at your balcony area.  9638 is the 16th balcony counting from the aft (rear) end of the ship on the port side.

Obstructed view cabins have the  word obstructed in the name. Be aware that cruises do not consider a cabin view obstructed unless there is a lifeboat in front of the balcony or window. It is possible on some ships that you will  not be able to look straight down and see the water, because of a life boat, or awning, but that does nto make the cabin an obstructed view cabin.
