Formal night on Shadow

I can only tell you what I would wear on a formal night, specifically on a short 7 day cruise. I’d choose a black knee length dress in a silky  (packable) fabric. I might add either a sparkly sweater, lightweight jacket or shawl, and “ diamond” earrings. I don’t think bringing fancy clothes or shoes are worth it. I have a pair of black patent low heeled leather shoes which are suitable for both formal and informal nights.

On a 7 day cruise there will always be casual nights on the first and last day/evening. I just wouldn’t worry about the much discussed “dress code”.  SS passengers dress pretty conservatively and tend to blend in. Very few ladies wear long or fancy evening dresses.

‘Have a wonderful cruise, and welcome to Silversea. And please post your experiences!

Thanks.  I was hoping for more replies. On other cruise lines I usually take a long skirt or palazzo pants of chiffon and a beaded or lace top and sparkly or fabric /satin sandals.  Just dont want to over do it for this one.

I have cruised with Silversea both in the Med and in the Caribbean.  My experience has been that ladies wear more formal attire in the Med.  Although very few long gowns, palazzos are quite common, as well as short or midi beaded cocktail dresses.  Due to packing limitations, many ladies were a little black dress or pantsuit, which they dress up with different ornaments.  Personally, I tend to overdress, and feel happy with myself.  You should wear what makes you happy.

Like you, I enjoy dressing up.  But I would tamper it a bit on Alaska, Antartica, and Caribbean itineraries.  A bit...just a bit...

We are more casual than most so just how strict is the dress code? We have just booked our first Silversea coming from Regent (which we love, the change is itinerary driven).

The dress code is published in the website.  If by how strict you want to find out if it will be enforced...I once saw Maitre D' Jorge escort a gentleman out of the MDR (when it existed) due to a denim attire.  I wouldn't risk it.  However, having enjoyed cruising Crystal, most people follow the code.  I'm sure you'll be fine.

On many itineraries you will still see some gentlemen in tuxedos and ladies in gowns and nice cocktail dresses. I dress up a lot even if others don't just because I enjoy it and it is one of the few places I get to wear my gowns. Even if all the passengers aren't  completely formal, there is still a dressiness to Silversea especially on formal nights so I never really feel out of place. The female crew such as the international hostesses are always in gowns for formal nights also. I do remember that our Alaska cruise was a bit less formal than others.
