Tip for local excursion

If it is through the ship, I'm not sure as we never do that.

For independent excursions, most sail and snorkel tours will have a dish or bucket or something as you are leaving for tips.  We usually leave $5-$10 pp, depending on the length and quality of the tour.

I assume (hope) that the tips are shared with all crew members--often this is stated on the tip jar.

I think it ( whether to tip and how much) depends on a lot of factors, where it is, whether it is a private tour, how many people are with you, etc. At the end of the day, it may come down to if you feel you should or shouldn't tip. If you have enjoyed the tour and the guide was great, then a little extra wouldn't be inappropriate.
