GradUT Posted July 12, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2019 If you are a US citizen, you need an ETA to enter Australia. Apply for it through the official Australian government website: https://www.eta.homeaffairs.gov.au/ETAS3/etas

What’s EasyETA doing with it? I would be very suspicious also. That is a first where an agent charges less than the official government website! My first question would be "How would you know your ETA has been electronically linked to your passport?". I’m inclined to agree, but thenever I need to apply for such things for Mrs Gut, I throw in the Maiden name, better safe than sorry is my usual motto. buchhalm Posted July 16, 2019 #17 Share Posted July 16, 2019 Quote from the Australian home affairs website: "Why do I need to indicate that I have an Alias? When travelling to Australia we need to ensure that you have a valid visa. If you have used a slightly different name on your ETA application to that on your passport, knowing that you have an alias or another name or different spelling of your name will help us check that you do have a valid visa." GloriaF Posted July 23, 2019 #18 Share Posted July 23, 2019 (edited) How far in advance should we apply for our ETA? We are arriving in Sydney the end of March, 2020. Our cruise leaves on April 4, 2020. I understand that we now also need a visa for NZ. Edited July 23, 2019 by GloriaF

I was just wondering how far in advance for Australia? I looked at the official application site but did not find any mention of how long the ETA is good for. GradUT Posted July 23, 2019 #21 Share Posted July 23, 2019 (edited) The Australian ETA is valid for 12 months, so if you are traveling in March/April, you may apply for it now. I would recommend applying for your ETA before booking any non-refundable travel because there is always a (small) chance that it could take awhile for the ETA to be granted. (It generally takes a matter of minutes, but you could be one of the “lucky” ones requiring more scrutiny.) I recommend reading the information on the official Australian website about ETAs. (The “12 month” limit is listed under “ETA Conditions”) https://www.eta.homeaffairs.gov.au/ETAS3/etas And, yes, effective in October 2019, US citizens are required to obtain an ETA to enter NZ. See this info from the official NZ government website: https://www.immigration.govt.nz/about-us/media-centre/news-notifications/electronic-travel-authority Edited July 23, 2019 by GradUT

Disneymom06 Posted July 25, 2019 Author #23 Share Posted July 25, 2019 I did my ETA last week or before that and I still haven’t heard a thing. I bet I am one of the longer ones where it takes longer.

I bet I am one of the longer ones where it takes longer. Just after 9/11 I went to the USA and had a long interview with a LAX boarder official. He was very pleasant fellow but he demonstrated how he knew more about me than I knew about myself. Things like my grandfathers middle name, my grandmothers sisters name. He said he could go on and I’m Australian without a traffic infringement for 30 years.
