Questions regarding disembarkation on Jewel of the Seas out of Civitavecchia Port?

 Share

Will be sailing on the Jewel of the Seas out of Civitavecchia Cruise Terminal and I have a few questions regarding disembarkation and transfers to FCO airport.

1. In general, what time does disembarkation begin?  Specifically looking to do the early morning walk off with baggage option, and was wondering what time are passengers doing the walk off generally able to disembark?

2. What transfers, or transfer companies recommended for Civitavecchia Cruise Terminal to FCO airport?

3. From where the Jewel of the Seas docks at Civitavecchia Cruise Terminal, how far away are the transfer vehicles located?  Are they located on the pier, just by the ship, easy to find? etc.

Thank for all information, advice, and recommendations.  Appreciate your help and support.

1. Usually pretty quick, once the ship has docked. Can't remember the walk off time but hopefully some recent guests will chime in.

2. Lots of recommendations on the Italy ports of call board. We've used http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com/ several times both from and to the port - private transfer - and they've been highly efficient, nice cars, English speaking drivers and competitive prices. Have booked them for later in the year

3. They (and assume other transfer companies) will meet you right outside the terminal building, which is adjacent to where the ship docks.

Are you flying immediately back to the US? What exact day/date do you disembark?

My cruise is not till October.  Our departure flight is around 11:20 am with a flight to London.  Thanks for any information.

Ah, ok... easy back-up plan then with so many connections to London if the unforeseeable happens.

Here is the Civitavecchia port with Jewel docked and the terminal building where you collect your luggage and leave

Note the arrow at the top, you leave the terminal building here. Private transfers and buses are lined all along the length of the parking area, ending where the two buses I've circled.... super easy and extremely convenient how it's all set up. Civitavecchia has to the best embarkation/disembarkation ports I've ever experienced.

The reason I asked for the day/date.... is it a holiday? Is it a weekday (rush hour)?

I also mentioned back-up plan above... those of us (perhaps you have too?) who travel often know that bad things can happen cancelled flights, shootings in airports (yep, I was flying to FLL when the Jan 6/17 shooting occurred), and unprecedented weather which can shut things down... look at the weather I experienced the morning I disembarked in Civitavecchia.

I did not have time to take pictures of the hundreds of cruisers at 9am, wet/ huddled, delays of transfers getting in and out of the port, traffic jams at the turn arounds and through the port itself with other ships trying to disembark as well, etc. It took us at least a half hour longer and the terrible congestion really caused issues getting off the ship. I can only assume that anyone taking a chance with very early flights were in deep trouble on this morning. There's no way a large vehicle would've done highway speeds without hydro-planing, so even with the delay of getting out of the port area, the slower travel speeds to FCO also created a delay.

Last week 7/7/19 the Jewel used the brand new concrete (!) building, still Banchina 12-13.    We were pulling in and docked well before 6am and first people off we’re about 6:30.   It is about 50 mins to FCO.

Do not expect to be able to get off the ship shortly after docking. Last Sunday, we docked at 5:00 am. I had previously made arrangements to meet our driver from a Rome Cabs at 6:30 am but the departure letter I received from the concierge indicated disembarkation was not expected to begin until 6:45am

We ended up doing self-assist (lugging/carrying our own bags) and being escorted off the ship by the concierge. We were in the first wave off. The notice that the ship had been cleared came at 6:50.

Rome Cabs (and some other companies offering transfers) pays for a special license to be able to pick up in the line of vans shown in the foreground of the photograph posted earlier.  We were told taxis are out at the exit to the port.

Because we we were able to get off the ship and through the terminal quickly, traffic out of the port was not bad. We made good time on the road until just before we got to the airport, where it was stop and go due to weekend summer travelers. It took just at 1 hour to get to airport and pay the driver.

We we had a 10:40 flight to the US. The line at Alitalia to drop bags for US flights was very long but moved along consistently and fairly quickly given the length of the line  due to the number of desk agents working. We got through security in no time and ended up with about 40 minutes to spare before boarding.

I also would like to reinforce the same thing as kccrzr above:  you have to book with transfer companies that are licensed to come into the port.  Otherwise, the cheaper ones are located at the off-site pick-up area where the free shuttle will take you.

I recommend you first find your roll call and see if other passengers on your cruise are organizing transfers.  We did this, and it worked out great:  35Euros each.

This web site is handy, too:  https://www.civitavecchiaport.org/shared-shuttle-service/

You join a group for your ship and debarkation date.

It sounds like you were in a suite.  Can you tell me where you met the concierge for the escort off the ship?

We met the concierge at Chops Grille.  Attached is a photo of the disembarkation letter we received from the concierge.

The concierge also escorted us to a tender at our stop in Portofino - which was very helpful.
