Hotels in Auckland and Sydney

Recommended Posts

I love the Sky City / Sky City Grand hotel in Auckland - while it is the casino this is just a small part of the organisation.  They have a massive hotel, conference centre and 20+ restaurants on site.  It is also very well located in the CBD and has some great outdoor spaces as well.  If you are going to rely on public transport it is a good base.

If you have a rental then look at staying outside the CBD where you are more likely to get free parking.

Staying at Holiday Inn Potts Point/Kings Cross pre Majestic Princess in February.  Half the price of the Holiday Inns and equivalent hotels in CBD.   Only one stop past Town Hall station.  KX station is right there with the Holiday Inn.

I don't like risking driving up to Sydney on day of cruise or flight, with all the road closures happening on south coast, fires, crashes etc.

Well Les sometimes it's all about the moment . We are on Ruby docking the day before. I reckon there is nothing better than getting off Ruby then staying the night at Holiday Inn the Rocks and waking up to see Majestic out the hotel window waiting for us to board to Singers.

Sometimes you save $100 but miss a $mill. See you on board

We go the night before, probably b3cause I once spent three days on the wrong end of the Freeway, and by going a day earlier I leave us with some semblance of a chance of finding a work around

That F3 freeway is what I consider a really F#%$ bad road.

I will drink to that and we will have many adult beverages on Majestic.    This year pre Noordam we stayed at Sydney Harbour Marriott, very handy and very nice but pricey, glad it was a birthday pressie from my son.

And if you were travelling this morning on Princes Hwy, South Coast, to Sydney to catch a ship or aeroplane, you would be in big strife, persons trapped MVA on Princes Hwy, Tabourie (just south of Ulladulla.)  Road Closed.  😓

Justifies my decision to travel up the previous day to catch a ship or plane, without stress.

We were going to train back from KX Stn 1 stop to Town Hall and change trains to Circular Quay.   As for a cab, perhaps $20.  As for the hotel, I booked direct with them, join their loyalty club on line for best rate and pre pay.

I think it’d be a bit more than $20, maybe less if you get them to drop you in George Street (say near the Holiday Inn) and walk rather than go the extra 100 yards to the terminal if you arrive at busy time.

The QT Hotel in Sydney is great if you like something high quality but a little different. It’s in a heritage building right across from the beautiful QVB building in the city. Worth checking it out 🙂

The harbourside hotels know when the big ships are in and jack the prices up accordingly, believe me.  Rogues.

Yes, head into the vestibules on carriages, take the 'Dinosaur' seats there, if you qualify.🤣  We use the trains when on long trips even, like next year, away 3 months, so will have 3 big cases between us.
