Quick question about Cheers and Galveston.

 

I know you can't purchase alcohol on the first day due to TABC laws, but does the rest of the program work on Day 1 (i.e. sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages)?  I'm inclined to think "no" because you're only paying for 6 days.  Thanks!

No. Cheers does not take effect until 6:00 am on Day 2.

Your correct will not start till 2nd day at 6 am

Cheers starts on the second day, but you can purchase alcoholic drinks on embarkation day.  The selection is a little limited and sales tax will be added to the price.

 

You can also purchase non-alcoholic drinks the first day.

Waiddaminit. If I understand this right, an adult(over 21) can get a scotch & soda at the local bar 2 blocks from the port, an hour before boarding,  that they cannot order a drink soon after boarding? 😡

Of course you can, if you purchase it.  It's only the Cheers program that starts on day two.

We are from Texas & cruise out of Galveston often. Yes the Cheers card does not go into effect until day 2, but we have not had to wait until 6pm.  I don't remember what time it was, but got it at the Casino bar, when it opened.  Think that is around 11am.

You will be greeted as you board a cruiseship in Galveston by a smiling young server offering to let you buy the Funship Special! You have barely even boarded when they're plying you with alcoholic beverages! As others have said, you can't use Cheers (nor do you pay for it) on day 1, but you can definitely get alcohol!

 

As for non-alcoholic beverages, you can get them day 1 before Cheers but like the alcoholic drinks, you have to pay for them.

They only get a unicorn now since Carnival could not find enough nationally certified therapy ponies.
