Komodo Island - BBC Article

Can't argue about it being swamped with tourists. But that wasn't the case before cruise ships started visiting, because it takes a fair bit of grief & determination to go there independently.

Americans might disagree, but to me the rationing a natural resource by the ability to pay smacks of elitism.

And pretty wicked to displace the islanders.

Just stop the cruise ships - problem solved.

Yet another place in the world to add to those that I'm glad I visited when I could.

Since the Indonesians stopped feeding the Monitor Lizards on Komodo Island, their numbers have dropped significantly.

Twenty years ago it was not unusual to see dozens in just an hour or so.

Now it is a big deal to see 2 or 3 in an afternoon.

The surrounding islands have far more dragons running around - without all the touristic nonsense to deal with.

You can book day tours and overnight tours from Bali to Flores and Larantuka that are far more rewarding and fun.
