If the line is long at guest services can you apply gift cards to your account at kiosks (specifically on the Breeze)?

The reports vary.  Some people have successfully done so.

I always pick a time when there's no line.  After breakfast is often good.

The kiosks rarely work. When you scan it and it's shows you how much the card has it asks you how much to apply. For whatever we reason it will not let you enter an amount.

My suggestion is put a credit card on file, pay with your gift card at your leisure onboard.

I will be using Carnival gift cards for sail and sign account.  When I am filling out online check in, do I set it as cash or CC and go to guest services when onboard?

You can pre-purchase Cruise Cash with your Carnival Gift cards before sailing.  The cruise cash can be used for anything on the ship, including gratuities if not already pre-payed.  If there is any fear of "losing" your cruise cash, cash it out by using the slot machines in the casino.

I had problems with two kiosks on Breeze last year. Finally I went to guest services and I've just gone there ever since.

Set account up as cash, then couple days before cruise purchase some cruise cash on cc website, then when you catch gs with little to no line you can apply the gift cards.

I've done it both ways, cash & credit, with gift cards... this past cruise last month we were checked in and waiting in the boarding lounge and I knew we'd have a bit of a wait anyway, so I just took my gift cards up to the folks who can process your S&S account in the lounge. It was a bit slow- I had 7 cards and they had to be processed one by one- but it was all taken care of for me when I boarded.

If there's no lineup when you get to the lounge and you know you'll have to wait a bit to board anyway, this might be the way to go. This was how I handled gift cards the last 2 times I cruised, and one had a cash account, the other a credit card account, but I still had gift cards to deposit.
