Ferry to Playa Del Carmen

We will be cruising on the NCL Breakaway in the beginning of October and we wanted to meet local friends who will take us the the Xplor Park.  What the is fastest way to the mainland?  Is it by ferry or is water taxi an option?

Ferry.

 

Be sure to buy one-way ticket so you can come back on any provider. I would be sure to check schedule and aim  for at least ferry before your latest. 

 

Also take in consideration transport on the mainland unless your friends have reliable car. 

 

At at least with NCL you will probably dock at Langosta and can walk to ferry, but not always a given.

 

 

Also depending on time of year check ship time and local time for ferry service.

And remember the local ferry only runs once per hour most days, some days they skip an hour in middle of the day. 

We got stuck in PDC once for 2 hours as we arrived at the ticket office as the boat was loading, they wouldn't let us on, then they didn't have a ferry the next hour.  No kidding, we were not happy.  So our plan to get the 3pm ferry meant we had to wait until 5pm.  Luckily we weren't cruising, so we only had to get taxi back to hotel after arriving in Cozumel.

If you are cruising in October,  remember  Coz and Playa  are on eastern standard  time all year round and Florida  will be an hour ahead. So double  check the ship time before leaving the ship.
