Looking to book my first NCL cruise and need some info.

There will be 3 of us sharing a cabin . 2 of us will get the free at sea premium drinks package but was wondering if I can buy the drinks package separately for the 3rd guest. If so any idea how much that would be for a 7 night cruise from Rome. Cant find any info on NCL site.

Any help much appreciated.

Yes you can.

I believe that it is currently $99 per day plus 20% gratuity, so around $840 for the week. The cost in pounds will depend on what the exchange rate was when you booked the cruise.

If you have set up a myncl account then you can purchase it after logging in there. You will also see the cost in pounds there.

Wow Thanks Keith ,

Sounds it will cheaper to book a separate cabin with its own free at sea perk!

I always thought RCL's drinks packages were expensive but that price is insane.

A widely held belief is that NCL have pushed up the price of the package so that the gratuities (which are paid in the US even if you take it as a promo) are also higher. I suspect that not all that many people actually pay the full price these days, but it does become an issue in your situation.

For most people it is definitely less expensive to just pay as you go for your alcohol.

Let me say what everyone is thinking but nobody is willing to say:

You can get 2 drinks at a time per person with a drink package. Just be discreet and tip your waiter/bartender and give your 3rd guest a drink of their choice. It happens all the time. Nobody pays $800+ for a drink package. Now technically if you get caught you do run the risk of possibly losing your drink package but i've seen it people pass drinks dozens of times and never heard of anyone having their drink package taken away.

Now, all the NCL defenders will come on and tell me how horrible of a person I am...but i'm just telling you the truth of what most people do. It's also what I would do. I don't have a problem admitting it nor do I feel bad about it.

It HAS happened and not only can the package be voided, the guest can be charged for ALL drinks that were served prior to being caught.

It's not about defending NCL. It's about giving someone bad advice.

If a novice driver who is unfamiliar with a particular place asks what the speed limit is (70mph, for ex.), it is bad advice to tell them "...just drive 80mph like everyone else does. I do it all the time and I've never gotten a ticket...just be discreet about it...".

It's not worth the risk.

That scenario doesn't make any sense. There's no program that allows you to pay to drive faster, there's no additional physical risk to you or others by giving someone a drink, and it's not illegal to give someone else a drink. Completely different.

While i'm sure it has happened especially if you sit in plain view of staff and pass on the drink right in front of them or if you're intoxicated...a vast majority of the time nothing happens. I'd venture on to say that over 95% of the time you get away with it just fine. Just be smart about it.

Again...it's what almost everyone does and certainly what I would do (hypothetically...since i've never done that of course).

Your options otherwise is pay $800+ for a drink package or $10-15 per drink plus gratuity on top of that. Both will cost you a lot of money.

Would "Trying to sneak people into the Haven courtyard" be a better example? They are both wrong and are both just an attempt to save money by getting something that a person isn't entitled to have.

The worst that can happen is that a non-Haven guest gets kicked out of the Haven (no financial loss to anyone) but it is still bad advice to tell someone that "...people sneak friends/family into the Haven all of the time...just be discreet about it...".

If paying a la carte, the cost will depend on how many drinks a person orders. That's how it should be for the people who do not have a package.

1. Nobody is getting kicked out of the Haven simply because they sneaked in some friends. They'll get a slap on the hand on the first offense...that's it.

2. Yeah they should pay a la carte...the problem is that NCL has inflated drink prices and beverage package prices. Had their drink package been reasonably priced then they would have just paid for it. We just purchased the Deluxe Beverage Package on our upcoming 7 day on RCL for $404. That's less then half what NCL charges AND it includes A LOT MORE.

On one hand NCL has an unreasonably priced beverage package because they pocket a majority of the "service charge" that people pay, but on the other...just like taxes...when you increase it to an insanely high amount it promotes abuse and people circumventing certain rules. The higher the taxes the higher the tax evasion. If NCL charged an amount in line with every single other cruise line...then a lot less people would find creative ways to get drinks.

I’m making no comment on the rights or wrongs of sharing drinks, I have to agree totally with this as goes the incentive.

Of course some people would still be bending the rules even if the beverage package was very cheap, but the current pricing must have people looking for creative alternatives who wouldn’t even have considered doing so if the price was more reasonable.

I mean that the friends (non Haven) would get kicked out. If someone asked "Can I bring my non-Haven friends to the Haven pool?", I would tell them that it isn't allowed and shouldn't be done even though some actually try it and get away with it. If someone asked about using the drink package to get drinks for someone who doesn't have the package, I would answer in the same way.

Even if the prices are inflated (they are), that doesn't justify violating the terms and conditions of the optional package. If someone feels that the price of something is too high, they shouldn't buy it. That high price doesn't justify taking something that they neither paid for nor deserve.

People "shared" drinks when the package was $59pppd. It was wrong then just as it is wrong now.

We cruise with a 3rd person (MIL) and while she already has the free drink card in the casino we decided to just buy her drinks throughout the ship instead of buying a package

Bartenders and servers on our last 2 cruises all Said just order her one on your order and save paying

Needless to say that’s how we did it the whole cruise and Tipped the bartenders and servers nicely 🍹🍹😜

Bingo! Like I said...be discreet and tip your bartender/waiter and chances are everything will be just fine. Of course the "morality" police won't think so but that's another story...

The same people that share the drink packages, or suggest they be shared, are the same ones who complain that the price of the drinks/packages are too high.  What do they expect, the cruise line has a profit margin on the drinks/packages in their budget and when shared, it reduces that profit margin and they raise the prices to make up for the shortfall.....it is just the way businesses work.

Just noticed this thread was still going.

We decided to book an extra studio room. It worked out cheaper than having a 3rd person sharing and paying for a separate drinks package. Also got the free at see dining perk to go with beverage package.

I have witnessed someone order a drink without the package in the casino and someone at the table that had the package said to put it on his card instead because he has the package, this was in front of the server, the blackjack dealer and the casino supervisor. None of them cared.

I have 3 people on my upcoming cruise, when I order a drink for myself and the 3rd person I’m just going to give the bartender both cards and it’ll be his decision to charge or not.
