AlexsDogPound Posted September 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2019 I understand that long pants and no jeans may be worn inside the eating venues but are you allowed to wear shorts during the evening after dinner in the bars, or the casino, or watching a show? florisdekort Posted September 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2019 Jeans are welcome everywhere except in the main dining room (The Restaurant). Shorts are not allowed in the evenings in public areas although that rule seems to be waved for the Patio / Earth & Ocean outside dining venue. SLSD Posted September 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2019 Hmmm.. I thought it was no jeans in public areas after 6pm. Maybe this has changed and I didn't realize it?

Maybe this has changed and I didn't realize it? Agree with your thought. We found this on the internet about Seabourn and dated June of this year... "Casual, resort-style attire including jeans and shorts, is welcome in all lounges and dining venues UNTIL 6pm." In thinking about it, we would be rather uncomfortable (read: underdressed) going around the ship in the evening in shorts when everyone else is wearing something longer. I seem to remember reading that as well. We were always careful to follow that instruction.

Maybe this has changed and I didn't realize it? From Seabourn’s website. Make of it what you will, unfortunately (and as debated here a gazillion times before) it isn’t very clear on other dining venues after 6 pm - and Seabourn needs to fix that. Jeans are welcome in all dining venues during the day, but not appropriate in The Restaurant after 6pm.

If wearing shorts during the evening on a cruise is really important to you, I would consider choosing another cruise line. I don't think I've seen people wearing shorts in the evening on Seabourn. Most try to consider the dress code as stated and adhere to it to the best of their understanding. There are probably other cruise lines that would welcome shorts in casinos, at shows, at bars, etc. I think the really good thing is that there are cruise lines that cover every whim that a guest might have. Why sail on a ship that has guidelines counter to your desires? Edited September 6, 2019 by SLSD 3
tv24 Posted September 6, 2019 #10 Share Posted September 6, 2019 With the powerful A/C indoors at night, I think shorts in the casino or theater might be a bit drafty. I love A/C in hot weather, but even I have to put on a coat to keep comfortable.

I am inquiring as I have not seen any posts that cover the public areas of the ship during the evening outside of the restaurants. For instance if we choose to dine in our cabins, then see a show, will it be frowned upon. I now know that the answer is yes and I will pack accordingly. Something you need to be mindful of AlexsDogPound is that the interior of the ship is kept at around 21c -22c (70f -72f) whether in the Med in mid-summer or in Antarctica, and the restaurants are even cooler, as the wait-staff are wearing jackets and they are constantly on the move. The theatre is also cooler because of the energetic action of most of the performers. Of course you can have your Suite at any temperature you wish. I wear a jacket each night just to be comfortable. islandchick Posted September 7, 2019 #13 Share Posted September 7, 2019 I have wondered this as well. At what time is it ok to go back to casual. What if I want to grab a drink from a bar at 11 pm, do I have to be dressed nicely?

Why would you NOT want to be dressed nicely on one of Seabourn's cruise ships? From my own experience in the Observation Bar on a SB ship at 11pm, everyone is dressed nicely--in the same clothes they wore for dinner. Why is this a big issue? I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm just trying to understand the need to push back against dressing nicely. I don't quite get it.
islandchick Posted September 8, 2019 #15 Share Posted September 8, 2019 Well to each his own I suppose because I don't get it either. I love to dress up but If I want to grab a drink and sit outside on deck at 11 or 12 I would prefer to be more comfortable. My question still stands. Why wouldn’t `you just order a drink from Room Service or your suite Bar/Fridge and sit on your Veranda, you can even go naked then if that’s your desire.
florisdekort Posted September 8, 2019 #17 Share Posted September 8, 2019 Perhaps this topic should be locked. The Opp’s question has been answered and we’re now going down the same road as always where people start lecturing “consider another cruise line”, “dress nicely” or even “sit on your verandah” 🙄
cruiseej Posted September 8, 2019 #18 Share Posted September 8, 2019 @islandchick I think the answer to your question is that the evening dress code goes into effect at 6 pm, period. There is no "dinner-only" dress code that gives way to informal/casual dress later in the evening.

This and other Dress Code questions have been answered SO many times in the Dress Code thread.

I made the mistake of asking my guy (with Kilts) if he was wearing anything under his Kilts. He said no. It took me days to erase that image from my mind. Other than that, he did look sharp. I bet the Me Too Police would be there in a hot second!
