zteamtwo Posted September 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2019 Just got an email from our TA (from Oceania) saying that we might need Yellow Fever & Malaria shots before visiting St Lucia in December. Oceania does not require the shots but St. Lucia port people might require proof. Anyone have experience with this?
StanandJim Posted September 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2019 Nobody is going to have experience because all of this has to do with current health situation(s) in the Caribbean due to, ahem, changing weather conditions. Short story, their island, their rules.
zteamtwo Posted September 9, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted September 9, 2019 The letter from the TA states "proof of inoculation may be required if the guests are arriving from an "endemic" area". Confusing? Are other islands considered to be endemic?
sunlover12 Posted September 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2019 I could be wrong about this but I don't think there is an approved malaria vaccination. The standard malaria prevention medication is oral. I was in St. Lucia in February of this year and nothing was required but obviously conditions in the Caribbean have changed since then. basor Posted September 9, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 9, 2019 This is a form letter they send out for certain countries......unless you have been in one of the countries listed : https://www.travelvax.com.au/holiday-traveller/yellow-fever in the last year then you are fine.. We went on Oceania Amazon cruise last November, received same email, did not get either vaccine and were never asked in any country for proof of vaccine and we traveled from Brazil back through many Caribbean countries. It depends on whether your ship has visited another port that is an area that is endemic. If you are only visiting the Caribbean Islands, then probably not. If you're ship visited a country in South America that is endemic, then yes. Regent screwed up and sent out notices to all cruises that are stopping in St Lucia, not just the critical ones. After much poking them, Regent admitted the email was not meant for those that don't have a stop in an endemic area. Here's the extensive thread from the Regent Forum on the topic: Edited September 9, 2019 by 1985rz1

Completely straightforward. Thanks. We still have our yellow card thingies from ten years ago. As we're in our 70s now it's not advised.

I ask this because there was a case over on the Regent board just last week where someone was informed of the same thing by Regent. But it turned out to be a mistake, since they were not going to Brazil at all. It took some time to straighten it out:
