Hotspring Posted September 24, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2019 In reviewing the languages available on excursions in European ports, there is no selection for English. There are languages like Spanish, French and German available to select on the excursions but no English. Are we going to have to use Google Translate or some such or can we safely assume that by default the excursions will be in English? Do the ships use English as the primary language among the staff, Dailies, and shows or are we to be immerse in foreign tongues without respites? I understand we should honor the language and culture of the countries we visit, but we are curious as to whether we are even going to be given an opportunity to understand what is going on without going through our translator devices. Rare BirdTravels Posted September 24, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2019 The English excursion may be sold out already. There is always an English excursion. Check on the ship.
smplybcause Posted September 24, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2019 I believe the ship's default is English with the exception of cruises out if China. Though now that Joy is in the states NCL I don't know if that changed.
casofilia Posted September 24, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 24, 2019 If there is no language mentioned in the title then the excursion will be in English. Any excursions in a "foreign" language will have that language as an addition to the title in English. If there are excursions with a foreign language in the title but not one without a language then as @BirdTravels says the English one may well be sold out. Once on board go to the Shorex desk and ask to be put on a waitlist.
Rare KeithJenner Posted September 24, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2019 Onboard, English is the first language. When in Europe you will find that they often make announcements in multiple languages (dependant on the mix of passengers) but it is always English first. Dailies are printed in multiple languages and you will receive the appropriate one for you. This does mean that announcements go on longer, and Muster drill can take an age. sanger727 Posted September 24, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 24, 2019 Norwegian cruise line is an American based company. Therefore, on all their sailings (with the exception of the ship they marketed as Asian only a while back) are English based. They crew will speak English, everything will be printed in English, and excursions will he in English. If there’s a language listed it’s just an alternative to English. With No language listed, exclusion will be in English
