NCL Jewell - Luggage check / boarding in Seward

Ship departs June 1, 2020 from Seward to Vancouver ( 9:00 pm)

Taking the train from Anchorage to Seward (June 1) and arriving at 11:00 am.   Plan to take the ORCA Cruise from 1pm- 5pm.    Would like to get rid of our bags before the ORCA cruise.

  • Is it possible to check our bags at the ship terminal (or with NCL) after arriving by train?
  • What is the earliest you can board the NCL Jewel?

If you travel by train, your bags are delivered directly to the ship.

At the Anc train depot you drop your bags at the large tent and tell the handlers which ship you're boarding.  The next time you see your luggage it will be in your cabin.  ( Luggage travels by truck to Seward )

When i did cruise in April, I also took train.  They loaded a truck at  Anchorage RR station with cruise luggage and I picked it up on the ship, no special service required.  I believe they do this to expedite luggage handling.

ADDING - - - This is the time you put those cabin luggage tags on your bags - the ones you printed off your eDocs.

Your luggage checked at the white tent will be at your cabin door but needs those cabin tags to know

which cabin on which deck and end of the ship.

Just remember to keep your documents passport medicines cameras cell phones and perhaps a change

of more cruise casual clothing with you.

The Seward Cruise Terminal is small and guests are boarded as soon as registration is completed - the

flow if fairly continuous with little waiting time

The Alaska RR scheduled Coastal Classic train will arrive at the Seward Depot about a 5 short block walk to the

cruise terminal or free shuttle buses will be available - my companion and I walked the 5 block walk and

were checked in well before the shuttle buses arrived.

The Alaska RR chartered by NCL does the same thing with the luggage but arrives on the tracks adjacent

to the cruise terminal a half block walk to check-in,

Anchorage to Seward

Scheduled AKRR leaves 0645 am arrives 1105 am

Chartered NCL train leaves at NOON arrives about 5 pm (may stop at airport for guests ???)

What is the earliest you can board the NCL Jewel?

When you arrive at Seward and walk or shuttle to the Cruise Terminal
shortly after Registration you can board the ship as noted the terminal
is small and there is really no holding area - very early arrival is discouraged.
Thus your 1 pm SX is doable with no luggage worries and you might get
a bite to eat before you go and get rid of your carry bags.
Check with NCL at Seward for the timing on all this.

You could take your SX and register check-in later hauling your carry-on
bags with you - the location of the SX pick-up may determine how much
you can do with the time available upon Seward arrival.

And I hope your weather will be better than what we experienced - but it
is Alaska like it - leave it - rain - shine - snow - gloom of whatever is sent
your way !

Frankly. I do not recommend this tour.  There is no guarantee you are going to see orcas-   If that is why you booked it?    I only recommend trips of 6 hours and longer.  You simply don’t get very far in 4 hours and likely still in the bay.  A lacking glacier view as well.     I do these tours every year- multiple times.  Over 50 total.      Fact the longer you are out the more you see.
