You would need to be quick though, as the prices for all my cruises has gone up considerably.  My friend who has a twin for single occupancy has gone up by £320.

Yes my 3 cruises B to B to B had gone up by £500 by Wednesday.

I am sorry but I still cannot see how 10% is given to previous cruisers.

I have just tested this again. Please someone else test this and explain where I am going wrong. Cruise A116B ( just picked any cruise ) select option gave me £977pp for 2 people. Did not change cabin or grade. This came to £1954. I was then asked to put in my email address which it recognised and the price dropped to £1852.

10% of £1954 is £194 - £1952= £1759 not £1852.

mediteranean, Valletta , September 2021 A116B.

In my post I said that I got 10% off the price that was on the P&O site.  I was not aware that the 5% was supposedly already taken off the price, if that had been the case I would have had 15% P&O discount.

I think that P&O have covered themselves with their get out clause :

We reserve the right to withdraw the offer in whole or on individual cruises at any time."

basically saying that they will ( can ) do whatever they want with prices.

The way I read the original blurb that we got was that pre-registering guaranteed the price at the pre-launch advertising. This is why I asked if you pre-registered because I thought that if you didn't then you could have been caught by fluid pricing.

I would agree with that.  I will say it again.  When I did a dummy booking on the ship, it immediately gave me 5%off the price.  That was without logging in.  When I logged in, it gave 10% off.  If you are booking after pre-registration, then prices may well havechanged.

Thanks for your replies Jean and Josy - my question to both of you is how did you know that the 5% new cruiser discount was already included in the advertised price? I cannot find it written anywhere that confirms that information. All I have is what is listed on the P&O website (below) and nowhere does it state that the 5% is already included in the price:

5% booking discount is applicable to all new guests making a new Select Price booking from our new summer 2021 and winter 2021/2022 collection before 9 December 2019. [The summer 2021 and winter 2021/2022 collection relates to all applicable new cruises departing on or after 6 March 2021.] This discount is additional to Select Price benefits and is not applicable on Early Savers. We reserve the right to withdraw the offer in whole or on individual cruises at any time.

10% booking discount is applicable to past guests making a new Select Price booking from our new summer 2021 and winter 2021/2022 collection before 9 December 2019. There seem to be no base prices in any of P&O's brochures, but my TA provided me with the base price, the discounted by 10% price, because I am a past passenger, and then a further 5% reduction from my TA. I am therefore quite convinced that I received a correctly discounted price. However I agree with you that the on line pricing could be confusing, but unlike last year I have not read about any TA's giving out misleading information, as happened last year.

Interesting Josy. I did pre register and I was only given 5% off of the advertised price and that was only after I had taken it up with P&O reservations. They maintain that 5% was ALREADY included in the advertised online price and they grudgingly took a further 5% off to supposedly make my 10% past cruiser discount. I think it is a con. As with awmartin above, he has ONLY had 5% discounted from his price. I would love to get to the bottom of this.

I have just done as you asked but using my own cruise for a dummy booking, I did not sign in and got a price of £3366, I then signed in and did the same dummy booking and got £3178.

I would agree that they are saying that the 5% is already taken out of the price :-

If we say £3366 is 95%

then 100% would be £3543

10% of this is £354 (5% is £177)

giving price of £3189

If we take £3366 - £177

We get £3189

The advertised price contains the 5% discount.  There is a small bit of mathematics to go through, however the rules appear to be:

advertised price £1000

pre discount price £1052.63 (£1052.63 X5% = £52.63).  This figure is not advertised.  Past passenger discount a further £52.63 (not £50.00).  Should you wish to check, take the advertised price, divide by 95 and times by 100 to calculate the unadvertised starting price.

On the booking that I have it works out to the pound, they did round up the pennies lol.

I think - not certain, but I think.  The price that was there at pre-registration doesn't contain any discount whether you are new or past.

Once they have done the pre-registrations and we are at launch, the price shown then includes the 5% discount and a further 5% comes off for past cruisers.

What do you reckon?

Yes, yes, yes I understand all that but the pertinent fact is, we DO NOT know the FULL advertised price, so my argument is how do we know that 5% has already been taken off for new cruisers and then a further 5% for repeat bookings? I can also find no actual wording that states that the 5% is already included in the advertised price? Have I missed it? Is it there somewhere in black and white? Maybe I need to leave this alone completely because it is just frustrating me lol. IF anyone can point me to the wording that states the 5% is already included in the on screen price I would very much appreciate it, saddo that I am lol.

You are probably right, but bungle66 says that he'd did pre-register.

The whole thing would be so much simpler if they just gave a discount to past cruisers and left it at that.

Lol you are 100% correct Jean! P&O claim that my pre registration price DID include the 5% newbie discount and they would not have given me a further 5% unless I'd taken it up with their Customer Services department. It is now in the hands of Mr Ludlow's team and I shall see what explanation they come up with.

If you check out the 2021 cruises on line and open the "multiple offers" feature you will see the 2 discount offers clearly explained.

Thanks terrierjohn I have looked at that previously BUT it still does not say that the discount is ALREADY applied to the prices shown, it just states that the discount is applicable to select price bookings made before 9th December. That would imply that you subtract 5% and 10% respectively from the advertised price? Thanks Graham

When I pre registered with my online cruise specialist TA I asked for a breakdown in prices and she gave me start price then with 10% discount and then TA discount. My cruise was £1199 they then gave me 10% P&O discount and then a further 5% Peninsular Club because it was a dedicated Peninsular Club cruise and then my TA discount on top. The only difference which is causing the confusion is P&Os website already gives Select Price minus the 5% newcomer discount. My cruise was £1199 which is showing online as £1139 which is including 5% already discounted so a past passenger would only get another 5|% discount.

Correct because I was given price for my cruise at £1199 when I pre registered it is now showing as £1139 which includes 5% newcomer discount because everyone booking online would get that price and if you have cruised before with P&O and put in your Peninsular Club number it discounts it another 5% which is discount of 10% on pre registration price.

I hope my £50 On board deposit is not a part deposit?

I queried whether the 5% would become a 15% loss if we had to cancel with my TA, she confirmed that all specially reduced deposits from P&O would be the only amount lost if you have to cancel before final payment is made.

It all seems quite disingenuous to me, but the overriding question for me is: why?

For me, surely it'd be better to actually advertise all three prices, including the (supposed) original crossed out, to at least give the impression of the good savings to be had (and avoid any confusion and annoyance).

For those who might be interested P&O obviously do still have issues this year with the 5% & 10% respective discounts and I took it up with the CEO's office. My issue is not that the 5% is already included in the online/brochure price and a dfurther 5% is added for returning passengers BUT that it is NOT mentioned anywhere that that is the case. I assumed it was as it has been in previous years and many on here have told me about it BUT it is not mentioned in their online terms and conditions It looks like it might get changed but here is part of the reply sent to me recently:

"New passengers are applicable to receive a 5% discount and this amount will reflect automatically on the website. All past passengers will then receive a further 5% off this amount making a 10% past passenger discount discount.
I can only apologise for any confusion surrounding the discount and regret that the information may not have been clear at the time of booking. We are in contact with our Digital Team and they are in the process of amending this information.
As a gesture of goodwill and as a form of an apology I have applied a further £50.00 per person onboard credit to your cruise booked on board Iona in 2021".

I hope this info might help others who feel misled as I did. It is poor advertising on the part of P&O and it need not have happened!
