What is the easiest/fastest way to rent a car for the day from Port Canaveral?  Can you get a car right at the pier?

There are shuttle buses that pick you up right at the pier.  There is a designated area for them to pick you up.  Before your trip, just confirm that your rental agency has a pick up point there.  But I believe that most of the major rental agencies are there.   The shuttle will take you to the rental office which is only a few minutes away.  I believe we used Enterprise or Alamo when we did this.

Hertz (on Astronaut Blvd) is very close. About a 3 minute shuttle (or Uber) away. If you are renting after the cruise, try to get there as early as possible to avoid the crowds. Hertz does a better job than most, in that they actually have several employees working the counter, cleaning cars, etc. (vs. some others that seemingly have a single employee on a ship day... 😡). Hertz, if I recall, opens at 7 or 7:30, so if you do self-debark and get off the ship right away, you can be on the first shuttle and won't wait long at all.

Two weeks ago, we were off the ship by 7:15, on the Hertz shuttle by 7:25, and we were driving away from the rental lot by 7:35. this was really nice since we were going to Disney for the day. We even made it to the park before it opened at 9. (We were initially thinking we wouldn't get to the park until around 11.)

The closest agency to Terminal 1 is Enterprise/Alamo/National, which is walking distance.  Terminal 1 is normally what Royal uses for Oasis class ships, and other ships when there are no Oasis class ships in port.

If you are coming into Port Canaveral as a port of call, you could be at Terminal 1, Terminal 6, Terminal 10 or even in the container port (berth NCB5) depending on the day.  There are some rental agencies within walking distance of Terminal 1, not the other terminals though.  Those agencies that are within walking distance are open longer hours on the days there are ships embarking from Port Canaveral, but are open short hours or closed on other days when there are only ships there as port of call.  You do best to call the local office as the website does not always show them open when there is only one ship in port.  This link has the port schedule which will show where you are docking.

Hertz and Avis do run shuttles when there are ships there on a port of call but they close at either 4 or 5.  They do allow after hour drop offs though.
