rdhlsh Posted November 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2019 Because of illness it’s been 3-4 years since we’ve been on Holland America. However we were just on another cruise line that we also used to enjoy. Absolutely astounded that bingo prices had tripled & they now charge for room service! Does anyone know how much Holland now charges for bingo??
I like vacation Posted November 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2019 (edited) Bingo is $30 for the big package with 4 pages of 6 cards each. The prizes aren't that great. Usually $75 to $100 for the first game, increasing by $25 for the next rounds. The last game is a coverall with the prize over $1k if you complete a card within, I believe, 50 turns. The last two bingos of the cruise will have a win a cruise bingo and win the $1k prize without the 50 turn limitation. There can be multiple winners for each round and they divide the pot accordingly. Not sure what happens if more than one person wins the cruise bingo. Sue from Canada Posted November 15, 2019 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2019 (edited) Bingo has gone to the dogs on my last two cruises. It wasn't offered very often even on sea days, the prizes have gone down and they held it in the area opposite the shops (at the back of the Casino). I'm not a big Bingo player but considering there isn't much else to do in the afternoon with all the cuts etc. Not happy. Bingo was held only on sea days in BB King on our last cruise on the N Statendam. Plenty of seats and a good amount of tables. SarahCBL Posted November 15, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2019 I think Bingo prices on HAL, as posted above, are reasonable. If there is more than one winner for "win a cruise bingo" they play another short game with those winners to determine the ultimate winner. At least that is what they did the one time I saw that happen. I definitely don't like that Bingo has been moved from the main theater to BB Kings or other locations on some cruises. That would be my biggest Bingo complaint!!
Krazy Kruizers Posted November 15, 2019 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2019 Even though we don't play bingo, we have noticed over the years that the number of people playing has gone down quite a bit.
wwcruisers Posted November 15, 2019 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2019 One question: Does HAL's Bingo concessionaire offer those awful 'hand-held' devices? The ones that play the game (and, as many as you can pay for at a time) FOR you? While it's not exactly in the same realm as chess or Ma Jongg, I have always considered Bingo to be a game that involved at least some level of skill. The last time I played on an RC ship, I looked around at all of those 'computerized' bingo cards, and it dawned on me: a person could drop dead in the middle of the game, and their computer could still buzz: BINGO! That was my last on-board Bingo game!😏
I like vacation Posted November 15, 2019 #9 Share Posted November 15, 2019 HAL is not computerized. You have to pay attention and bring your dauber. 😃

Cruising-along Posted November 16, 2019 #11 Share Posted November 16, 2019 Since the Casino now is in charge of Bingo, the prizes have gone way down. First one is $75, then $100, $125 and cover all is $150. Last year on the VOV (before the casino took over) my winnings after the cost of playing was over $1200 in 4 wins. You have to win the jackpot now to get that much. Also they changed one of the rules, as we discovered on the NS last month and K this month. The winner no longer has to have the last number called. In other words you can call Bingo late as long as you have a winning card. It caused quite an uproar on our cruise when a winner didn’t have the last number called. If you have a bingo and announce it late, after some other numbers are called, you risk splitting the pot with the other players who now have a bingo on their card. You miss out on having the prize all to your own. Didn't think this was new.

The woman who won did not have the last number called, but she did have previously called numbers that gave her a Bingo. Several people who play often questioned it but were told it’s a new rule. OK, got it. We only play bingo on cruises and the last three cruises didn't have the last number rule.
