Retailers in the UK have the right to not sell you goods and services they have incorrectly priced under the Sale of Goods Act. Sometimes they do honour it for some buyers (Currys had a pricing glitch which meant they sold some Ipads with about 90% were sold and they honoured the deal). Plenty more examples. Sometimes I've suspected, with sites like Hot Deals, if some shops play the game to get punters in bargain hunting. I.e. someone posts proof that the Anytown Sainsburys has an expensive brand of single malt scotch with 90% off - with the carrot "might be national misprice". Result, for the cost of a couple of bottles of scotch they get punters piling in looking for a bargain. I don't think Celebrity IT are that smart. I agree that there are many examples of companies honouring prices made in error - Indeed friends of mine travelled business class to the USA for the price of an economy fare a few years ago - but in UK law they do not have to, that’s the point. The Celebrity website will surely see some changes in the coming days.

The first price you see on the website is the 'no perk' price which already includes a £375 'discount'. The two perk price therefore starts at £375 above the price you saw at the start and gives you this choice: Note that the beverage package shows the price increase based on 2 people, so it will add £150 to the per person cost. The 4 perk offering is as follows: Note that this adds £600 per person so we are now £975 per person above the price we first saw when we started this booking... 🙂 While it is not exactly deceptive as the words do make it clear, the slippery slope is very much there as you see £300 become £600 as you move from 2 to 4 perks, but it is actually £300 becoming £1200 ... And welcome to how pricing works in the US. The price you first see on almost any product or service is never the real price you pay and it's always more when you finally get to the bottom line. If you went to +4 perks the extra was zero - I suspect a glitch. Many of these perks aren't really perks or good value IMO. Paying to get On-board credit to buy overpriced stuff and pre-paying gratuities - can't see these as perks - anymore than buying a store gift card isn't a perk - it's a commodity to buy. Can't see these working for us and with elevated price I suspect this will be the nudge to try something else or cruising with someone else Everyone has to evaluate the value of the perks based on how they travel and the cost of said "perks". We never have a problem spending our OBC. We will usually go to a specialty restaurant once or twice on a week cruise. We'll also gamble a couple hundred dollars in the casino. So if the $300.00 OBC costs less than a $150.00 pp to add we go ahead and do it.
laslomas Posted November 20, 2019 #30 Share Posted November 20, 2019 I am confused by the new pricing when looking at a Transatlantic cruise in 2021. I am presented with 2 pricing options. Lowest Rate and Best Value. The difference being £400 per person. When choosing the Best Value there are no choices to add perks. So the final price seems to be £400 pp more for exactly the same product as the Lowest Rate. Am I missing something here?? The cruise I am pricing is the April 19th 2021 on Reflection. I thought it may be there was an offer of refundable deposit but I cannot see that, and as the difference is more than the deposit surely not. Goto a good TA site and the options are clear. Celebrity website has been rushed and many details are missing. The added £400 is for 2 perks + refundable deposit (Bev Pkg is extra again) Edited November 20, 2019 by mickey89 typo
paphoslady Posted November 20, 2019 #32 Share Posted November 20, 2019 I had a look at their new pricing strategy for UK cruisers last night. Ok its a change from the usual offers where the drinks package was always included for bookings of ocean view cabins or higher. I guess it gives you a choice now, do you want to pay for the perks or not?? Not convinced it would make me more likely to book a cruise with Celebrity. Have a read of this as it explains the new Celebrity pricing options. In my opinion it could have been written a little more clearly. But if you pay attention to the details it will explain how much per person per day the various perks will cost you in UK pounds sterling, assuming you want to book perks of course. Ask on here if you have any more questions and I'll do my best to assist. https://www.travelmole.com/news_feature.php?c=setreg®ion=2&m_id=_rnY!s~vd&w_id=36893&news_id=2040084 Basically the cost of the perks added to your cruise from an inside to an aqua class room will be :- 2 perks = £25 per person per day if NOT selecting the classic beverage package. 2 perks = £35 per person per day IF YOU DO select the classic beverage package. 4 perks = £65 per person per day including internet for two people, $150 OBC per person, gratuities and a PREMIUM drinks package. So there is a £10 per person per day supplement if you want the classic beverage package as a perk with a UK booking. It's $14 per person per day if you book in the US. But if I try for the April 2021 Eastbound, selecting "Best Value" - goes straight to the meal time selection and doesn't offer any perks. The next screen is the Pricing screen, which is £400pp dearer than the "Lowest Price" without providing anything extra.

isdoo Posted November 20, 2019 #40 Share Posted November 20, 2019 I suspect we will see the various extra perks included in come cruises as special offers. Everything is included as standard in a suite booking. However the price has increased overnight to reflect this.

Historically TA's, TP's and other repo cruises didn't have perks included with suite bookings (I know top tier suites like PH have these included anyway so am really referring to sky and celebrity suites etc). I've not looked at any repo cruises as they have too many sea days for me, but does it appear that all suite bookings now have the 4 perks included and pricing adjusted to reflect that? Or can you book a repo cruise free of perks still?
