Marty156 Posted January 24, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2020 Where do we arrange to be picked up by a pre-booked taxi at San Pedro upon arrival on a Princess Ship? (Apologies if this appears to be a stupid question, but have not been able to find an easily described location) We are arriving on Golden Princess on May 6th. Thanks,
Rassa Posted January 24, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2020 We arrived in San Pedro on a Princess ship early December last. It took ages getting through US Customs (about an hour or more). Once we passed through Customs and retrieved our bags, we walked outside and there were about 4 taxis waiting and more arriving all the time. Took about 30 mins to LAX and cost $60US. Is it worth pre-booking a taxi as the port area outside is quite large. It did not appear to be small with lots of traffic and mayhem. Its a big area and seemed quite organised with shuttles and taxis etc. The shuttles were taking longer than taxis as paperwork for pre-bookings had to be checked. Once we worked that out, we just jumped into a taxi. Goodluck.
Marty156 Posted January 24, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted January 24, 2020 Thank you for that response Rassa. We already have a booking from the hotel to go to Hollywood, so a random taxi would be more expensive. Can you tell what the area is called where the taxis wait? PS Hope the storms/fires are not too bad where you are. Marty
skynight Posted January 24, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2020 (edited) If I read you correctly you have a car service already booked to pick you up. If you look at a Google map of the terminal you will notice that there is a access road directly in front and across the road is an access island with a parking lot behind. Your driver will probably be in the designated parking area for taxis and car services waiting. Drivers can not stop long term at the curbs and wait for pick ups. One way is to get the driver's number and call them once you exit the terminal. It is possible that your driver will be waiting on foot outside the terminal door with your name on a sign, just like an airport. I have seen this. Call in advance to find out how the driver will operate. Edited January 24, 2020 by skynight
Rare 1025cruise Posted January 24, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2020 You might want to ask on the West Coast Departures board.
Marty156 Posted January 24, 2020 Author #6 Share Posted January 24, 2020 Thank you everyone for great suggestions. I will contact the hotel before we leave Oz and see what can be arranged. They have a particular service they use. Will also see about having cell phone roaming for use in US, Thank you all once again.
polmcs Posted January 24, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 24, 2020 The last time we arrived at San Pedro without having our car in the car park, we opted to Uber, rather than using a taxi. The driver picked us up right outside the exit to the terminal. As you can imagine, we were not the only ones using Uber/Lyft, so it took about 10-15 mins for the driver to show up. A few few years back I had booked a limo service and the driver picked us up at the same area right outside the terminal exit.
Tucker in Texas Posted January 25, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 25, 2020 We took the Princess transfer. While I am not a fan of excursions that the cruise line sells, it worked out well for us and was $32 a person. We were sent to a specific waiting place and our time to disembark was "coordinates" with our flight departure at LAX. We got a porter in the terminal, retrieved our luggage, and the porter got us through a fast customs line and out to the bus. As soon as it filled--not more than 15-20 minutes, it took off and dropped us at the terminal door. We left the ship around 8:20 and was at the terminal in about an hour or so.
