RCL has banned passenger from South Korea, Italy and Iran. Is NCL doing the same?

I just saw the news that all ships from RCL will banned passengers from these outbreak countries but I haven't seen any news from NCL.

 

Hopefully they should follow soon.

 

South Korea is now level 3- no traveling adviced.

If Corona is as dangerous as some people seem to think all unnecessary travel should be banned.

 

 

I hope that they are overreacting. We are not talking about the Black death.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. Coronavirus Protocol Update

The safety, security and well-being of our guests and crew is our number one priority. We are aware of a new travel advisory recently issued by the U.S. State Department. We have been closely monitoring the situation and out of an abundance of caution and as a result of the uncertainty surrounding port entry and berthing availability in various destinations in Asia, we previously made the prudent decision to cancel all voyages in Asia across our three brands. A total of 40 voyages have been canceled, modified or redeployed including 24 voyages on Norwegian Cruise Line, 10 on Oceania Cruises and 6 on Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Following these changes, we do not have any vessels deployed in Asia through the end of the third quarter 2020.

In addition, we have proactively implemented several preventative measures to reduce potential exposure and transmission of COVID-19 and to protect the health, safety, security and well-being of our guests and crew. These measures include:

• Enhanced pre-boarding and onboard health protocols that go above and beyond standard operating procedures.
• We are denying boarding to any guest and crew who has traveled from, visited or transited via airports in China, including Hong Kong and Macau, within 30 days of their voyage embarkation, regardless of nationality. The standard incubation period recognized by the WHO and US CDC for this virus is 14 days.  Guests who are denied boarding will be issued a refund when they provide proof of travel.

• Any guest who exhibits symptoms of any respiratory illness while on board will be subject to additional screening at our onboard Medical Center and may be subject to potential quarantine and disembarkation.

• We have implemented additional cleaning and disinfection protocols on board all voyages. These protocols will be enforced in addition to our already rigorous sanitization standards in place.

• At this time, there are no significant travel restrictions we are aware of outside of Asia. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and consult with The World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and take appropriate additional action as needed. We appreciate our guests’ patience during this time and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

Until an effective vaccine is found, yes, it can be quite dangerous to old folks, people with poor health and third world countries with subpar medical system.

Travelers from Italy have carry virus to Croatia, Austria and Switzerland and causing lock down of a large hotel in the Canary Island. 

 

Any cruise ships around the world is at risk. The cruise company started banning people from China right away but have been silence with Italy and South Korea.

Most people survive which wasn't the case with the Black Death.

 

It is dangerous to be old, sick and in a third world country with super medical system.

At least it was due to a sick worker and not just a general ban on all cruise ships.

The things is if the sick passenger or crew is from the outbreak area, the ship is most likely be banned from docking. So I think preventing passenger from those areas to get on the ship initially is in everyone's best interest.

Diamond Princess is listed as the third site of outbreak ahead of Italy on list of countries.Health workers from Japan are now infected from the ship.

 World o meter has excellent information and experts opinion.

My wife is a stage 3 cancer survivor and compromised immune system. Also I have high blood pressure and these are concerning health issues for the C virus. The elderly are at risk but other health issues are factors too.

We just got off the Ncl Bliss February and are kids back home were very worried. Personally I don’t think I could survive the 14 day quarantine as we were in an inside cabin.

Europe this fall and Bermuda this May are on hold for now. Watching and waiting.
The mainstream media is playing catch-up on the issues.

WHO is trying to stay on top of it.

I'm on the Joy sailing leaving this Sunday from Long Beach CA and I'm honestly agitated that NCL hasn't banned passengers who have visited/traveled through South Korea yet. It's spreading faster there  than China at this point and there's even an infected flight attendant that was working Seoul to LAX flights!

 

The west coast cruises tend to have more Asian passengers due to proximity... they need to be overly careful IMO.

I guess my point is more directed at the people saying NCL should cancel all cruises and refund all money due to COVID-19.  If that is the case, are we also going to cancel all school, close all offices, shut down stores, etc., etc.?  Based on sheer numbers, the flu has been much more devastating this year, resulting in over 16,000 deaths, 250,000 hospitalizations and 26 million illnesses per the CDC.  Should we have not shut down everything when those cases started back in September?

Well, JetBlue has taken the lead ... among others, to ease some of that uncertainity by offering those flying, the option to not cancel but postpone - without penalty and/or charges, their upcoming flights - within the given timeframe.

 

Email message dated last night, B6 flyers should've gotten it - a smart, strategic and timely move ... as travel & hospitality sectors around the world, including Disney, are bracing for the worst yet to come, with all the cyber.news floating around.  All 3 major mass cruiselines taking big hits, nose-diving to new historic lows.  Maybe, FDR's team should take a hint and re-think their pricing & marketing strategies in the near term. 

 

With viruses, not just COVID-19, possibly being spread via droplets & airborne, flying in an aluminum tin can these days is considered by many to be more risky than cruising, at least when we can go directly to our homeport, 30-45 minutes away on a typical weekend.

• Guests and crew who have traveled from, visited or transited via airports in China, Hong Kong, Macau or South Korea within 30 days of their voyage embarkation, regardless of nationality, will not be allowed to board any of our vessels. Travel companions of these guests who share the same stateroom will also be denied boarding.

One step in the right direction. Although banning Italian may have little effect since Europe border is open and the disease can easily spread to other countries and you can’t ban them all.
