Is there anything to do at the port or within walking distance of the port?

As said, restaurants are near the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal especially a great Seafood one within a good walk.

But the real activities (what the action is) is across the bridge and within Boston City proper ex. Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market..

Could you be more specific about your interests?  Many folks walk the Freedom Trail or go to Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market.  No real need for an expensive excursion.  Old Boston is a maze of narrow one way streets that don’t accommodate tour buses well, if at all.

For $2.90/pp each way you can use the MBTA (“T”) to get many places.  This trip would involve riding the Silver Line Bus from the pier area to South Station to free transfer to the red line subway to go on to many places in the city.  Details can be provided.
