Question about upgrading a room with a comped cruise

My daughter and I are very interested in the thermal spa passes. We will be on the Bliss in January and was told we could pay to upgrade our room.

We have a balcony cabin, 12250 to be exact. Is it worth trying to upgrade to a spa suite? Is it really pricey to do that? Or is it just better to purchase the passes? Thoughts?

It is tough to say.  Are you booked through Casino at Sea?   If so, Upgrade prices will vary.  The only way to tell what the cost is, would be to call CAS and have them price it out of you.  I did that for my Encore cruise and it was too pricey.  I would just rather keep my Balcony and buy the passes, but you wont know until you call.

It is almost always cheaper to just book spa passes than upgrade to a spa balcony. Alternatively you could try to bid on the spa balcony at a lesser price than the spa pass itself. The shower is slightly nicer in the spa balcony suite (not bigger, though) and maybe different bathroom amenities.

I’m also not a huge fan of the spa balcony locations, which are directly beneath the pool deck - you’ll hear people running, chairs being drug across the deck, etc at all hours - or fitness center (same noise issues only with workout equipment).

The passes are arounf $200 per person (at least that is the cost on Getaway for a week). If it costs more than $400 to upgrade to a spa suite or mini suite don't waste your money just buy the pass.

If you have been invited to bid for an upgrade, try bidding for a Spa Balcony cabin, below the cost of the spa passes ($199/pp or so).  This is if you're ok with getting assigned to any Spa Balcony cabin.  If you like your current balcony location, just plan on buying the passes onboard.

Usually an upgrade from a normal balcony to a spa balcony cost more than the spa passes themselves. The only real advantage is that your balcony location will be closer to the spa. If you like your current room location, than just pay for the spa passes. You could always put in a lowball bid for a spa balcony or mini-suite through the upgrade advantage program. If you win the spa room, you can get a refund for the spa passes you purchased.
