We’ve been for an early walk today before it got too hot, and combined it with breakfast at the M&S cafe to Eat Out to Help Out.

We’ve just been having the discussion about rubbish. There’s loads of discarded masks on the pavements, verges and wooded areas. I don’t know why people can’t put things in bins or if the bins are full just take their rubbish home with them

My son works in Sainsbury’s- he told him how many people leave their disposable masks in their trolleys - disgusting! What I thing to leave others to clear up, especially in these times 😡

Hope this is an okay place to post this - didn't think it warranted a new thread.

Just been watching the lunchtime news and the reporter was in Dover, somewhere quite high up. There was a big 'Micky Mouse' ship in the background. No doubt some would think it was Magic...😀

That would be up on the cliffs I expect. It’s about 50 mins drive from me, I went there a couple Of weeks ago, I think I may have posted the photo on here!

Yes, I think so - to the west of the town centre.

I agree, Avril, but unfortunately government cuts have led to a situation in police forces across the country meaning that they simply can't cope with anything much beyond murders and other serious crimes.

Online and telephone financial fraud is huge (running into the billions) but it's just not being tackled at all.  Insufficient resources.

And there are absolute no-go areas around the country where the police know full well crime is emanating from, but they daren't go in because they just don't have the numbers to do it 'safely'.  It's appalling.

It certainly is Harry. We obviously need more police officers but, and I know I shall be criticised by many about this, here goes. The police themselves are trying to do their jobs the best they can with the resources they have, which, imho is next to nothing. 1 baton, handcuffs and pepper spray. What use is that against the rioting were seeing? The PC crowd have a lot to answer for. Look at the furore they caused when the police were issued with pepper spray. Poor little hooligans mustn't get hurt, they have rights. Well so do we.  I'm not for one moment advocating arming our police, but during football riots I think  they used to use water cannon to disperse them. As we could be facing another lockdown it's imperative that these gangs are dispersed. I don't want to live in a country where the hooligans decide how I'm allowed to live my life.

Oh, dear. Sorry for rabbiting on. I'll shut up now😟

Quite like the 'Don't kill Granny' campaign though!  Our 4 year old grandson takes this pretty seriously - 'Don't come near me, Granny.  I don't want to kill you!".

How heartbreaking is that. The poor little boy must feel awful in case he makes his Granny ill.

Perfectly fair points, Avril.  I’m glad you stop short of guns - I wouldn’t trust them not to overreact, but apart from that, too much risk to themselves.

He’s pretty robust Avril! He’s just being brought up, quite correctly, in a good Yorkshire household where they call a spade a shovel! 😁

No Harry, definitely not guns. However, a sneaky belt round the ear'ole wouldn't go amiss. 😉

I thought we were discussing celebrity paedophile trials.

Not sure why.  It’s a complete red herring to the point originally made that the police should be stamping down on street crime.

The police resource spent on so-called celebrities is trifling across the country, and I’m sure you’re not suggesting they should be free from enquiry.

Paulines late mam always used to say.Bring Back The Birch.

That would be a deterrent.

I agree Avril these thugs have no respect for anyone especially the Police.

I'm quite glad that our 4 year old Grandson hadn t heard the slogan as he had to be tested for Covid last week due to a very high temperature.Fortunately the test was negative but his Mum has been telling him throughout that he mustnt go too close to me as I'm shielding and it was only on the previous sunday that i had held his hand for the first time since the outbreak. He would have been mortified!!

I'm reluctant to say "now when we were young" but I can remember getting a skelp round the back of my head from a policeman for throwing snowballs at a streetlight. Lack of respect is half the problem the other is they know that the police's hands are tie, by the lawyers.

There are going to be all sorts of serious and not quite so serious repercussions when/if we ever get back to something like normal.

I’m thinking of babies, who grow hardly knowing anyone outside their household.  Will we be a world of shy children?  Will they back away in fear from anyone they don’t know well?  Will children learn to co-operate, share, deal with disappointments, etc, which they normally get from playing together?

And will my new puppy be well enough socialised whilst we distance?  🐶 Will she be OK if and when anyone ever comes inside our place?

Ah, if we could turn back time ...     I wonder how far we would chose to rewind?

I agree.

We had the Cane and Belt at school and it sure was a deterrent.

Our parents taught us to respect people and property and now the law says even parents can't properly check their kids.

So pleased he tested negative. It's a constant source of worry for our families. I pray for day this is over and all our families can be together again. Without fear.

At least  20 year's when all the family were still here and probably longer if we could.
