I have to say the lights were a clue as they look typical Meji. Did you get a chance to visit inside the palace? We tried to book a tour but no slots ever became available.

  We could have gone in they where doing free tours and we said yes we will go and then the guide asked for photo ID, we had left that back in the hotel, all we had was Qld seniors card and they wouldn’t take that, so we missed out, always said that card was useless.

We tried to get those free tours but I found out you have to book online in advanced. Everytime I checked for the days we would be in Tokyo it came up with slots not available yet. At least we got a stroll around the gardens and I got to see Ume blossom which was something I was hoping to see 🤗. We really didn't have any luck getting inside any palaces😂. If wasn't Covid restrictions it was under renovations and in the case of Kyoto we happened to visit during a holiday that closed all the castles😜
