bluemarble Posted August 26, 2020 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2020 (edited) We don't know all the details of the new QM2 2022 World Voyage yet, but I've noticed we can deduce quite a bit about the itinerary from what Cunard has posted on their New 2022 World Voyage on Queen Mary 2. page and from email I've received about it. Here are the segments of the full 118-night QM2 2022 World Voyage round trip from New York. Jan 03-Jan 10 (7 nights): New York-Southampton Jan 10-Feb 01 (22 nights): Southampton-Dubai (via Suez Canal, Red Sea and a call in Oman) Feb 01-Feb 18 (17 nights): Dubai-Hong Kong (via Colombo, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and two calls in Viet Nam) Feb 18-Mar 06 (16 nights): Hong Kong-Sydney (via Bitung, Darwin, Cairns, Whitsunday Islands and Brisbane) Mar 06-Mar 22 (16 nights): Sydney-Singapore (via Melbourne, Fremantle and Bali) Mar 22-Apr 04 (13 nights): Singapore-Dubai (via Penang, Colombo, Abu Dhabi and Doha) Apr 04-Apr 24 (20 nights): Dubai-Southampton (via Muscat, Aqaba, Suez Canal, Civitavecchia and Lisbon) Apr 24-May 01 (7 nights): Southampton-New York There is mention of several evening departures without being more specific as well as overnight stays in Haifa, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney. There is also mention of a call to a UNESCO World Heritage site in Greece without being more specific. It doesn't mention which segments will include the calls at Haifa and Greece. It seems likely those would be included on the outbound Southampton-Dubai segment since it's otherwise so devoid of port calls and it's two nights longer than the return Dubai-Southampton segment. It also doesn't mention if the overnight stays in Dubai and Singapore will be on the outbound or return segments (or both). It seems likely there would be an overnight stay in Singapore on the return portion of the voyage since Singapore is defined as a segment end/begin point on the return portion. Stay tuned for further details. It shouldn't be too much longer until all is revealed. Edited August 26, 2020 by bluemarble
SEFlyer Posted August 26, 2020 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2020 I've seen enough of the 2022 QM2 WC plans revealed. Our South American segment booking is worthless, dumped by Cunard!
longton Posted August 27, 2020 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2020 What a boring itinerary! It certainly isn't a World Voyage. Apart from New York where it starts and ends it omits all of North America, all of South America, all of Africa and New Zealand. More like a Middle East and Asia cruise. The five or so ports of call in the Arabian Gulf are all so similar. I won't be booking any of the segments.
Rare Victoria2 Posted August 27, 2020 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2020 I'm no expert at all but could this be considered, for reasons unknown at the moment, a safe option? If it is, then I can see why Cunard have chosen this itinerary and although it's obvious it won't suit all, for those not quite so itinerary driven, and who want a long holiday, at sea on their favourite ship, then there's nothing wrong with the changes.
canoncruiser Posted August 27, 2020 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2020 I understand your ‘itinerary dismay’ but given the health crisis in otherwise glorious southern Africa, the political chaos in much of the Middle East-even Israel is s bit shaky-and South America on QM would mean around the Cape or around the Horn-there’s not much left. Not sure why no Shanghai but glad there’s a bit more Viet Nam. Don’t want to gloat but I’m glad I did the entire WC in QE in 2016-don’t think I’ll have that much cash accumulated anytime soon-and I’m getting on in years. 🥴

Our South American segment booking is worthless, dumped by Cunard! Hi The 2022 world cruise is very similar to the 2019 and 2020 world cruises on which I sailed many segments. So disappointing that Cunard couldn't replicate the cancelled 2021 world cruise which I booked three segments. It must be that cruise does not sell as well as what is now scheduled. I would greatly prefer the South American cruise now cancelled over the 2022 voyage. Soon autumn will be here and that is good. Deck Chair
brucepen Posted September 2, 2020 #7 Share Posted September 2, 2020 Hi. I understand from our TA that Cadiz, Piraeus and overnight in Haifa are on the outbound segment and that the overnight stay in Dubai 31st Jan is also outbound with Singapore overnight on the return segment 21st March. There are also 2 stops at Colombo on the way out and return as well as Aqaba on the way out and return.
Lakesregion Posted September 2, 2020 #8 Share Posted September 2, 2020 All this assumes that the NYC mayor will allow such commerce in Jan. 2022. So far he has no plans to reopen restaurants in 2021 at all except allowing the resumption of some outdoor seating beginning in June 2021.
Cruise NH Posted September 3, 2020 #9 Share Posted September 3, 2020 Count me in as someone who is underwhelmed with this itinerary, especially since if brucepen is right they will be repeating ports. We were on the 2020 QM2 wc but for 2022 we're heading over to HAL and their world cruise that goes to Japan and China among other interesting spots. I really wish QV would do a world cruise like HAL is doing.
watsonbeau Posted September 7, 2020 #10 Share Posted September 7, 2020 Does anyone have a day by day list of this itinerary/segments? It’s available to book from tomorrow but still nothing I can find other than the sketchy details on Cunard. Thank you
Sikwemu Posted September 7, 2020 #11 Share Posted September 7, 2020 We're another that was booked on the QM 22 Grand Voyage and won't be doing the "World". My TA said something we'd already realised-the Grand Voyage didn't have the sellable segments that Carnival now need.

Britboys Posted September 8, 2020 #15 Share Posted September 8, 2020 After having my San Francisco to Hong Kong sector of P&O's Arcadia World Cruise 2021 cancelled, I was hoping that this new one on QM2 would have an interesting replacement. Sadly, I am utterly disappointed. Whilst I can understand the commercial reasons for this itinerary, a World Voyage it certainly is not. This is just a return Line Voyage from New York to Australia. As P&O do not have a suitable replacement sector in 2022 for me either, looks like I will have to hope for something in 2023...
garandlev Posted September 8, 2020 #16 Share Posted September 8, 2020 We just booked NY to NY Queen Mary 2 leaving January 3, 2022. By using our FCC from the unused 2020 WC, one ticket is already paid for. We will try again! We like the repeats of some ports; it allows us to venture in depth into those countries. Hope to see many repeaters again on this voyage!

longton Posted September 8, 2020 #18 Share Posted September 8, 2020 It certainly doesn't work for me. Two thirds of the cruise are sea days. Is it normal to have such a lot of sea days on a World Cruise? A lot of repeat ports: 3 days in Dubai, 2 days in Aqaba, 3 days in Singapore, 2 days in Colombo, 2 Suez Canal transits. Like Britboys, I will be waiting for something more interesting in 2023.
MCC retired Posted September 8, 2020 #19 Share Posted September 8, 2020 Although after 90 some cruises , we are still not ready to attempt a World Cruise (costs and family ties) . However this 2021 WC itinerary would only excite us if the world was flat . A WC to us means round the world?

We're skipping over to HAL and doing their world cruise in 2022. I really like Cunard but the number of sea days and the itinerary just don't do it for me. Another thing...and don't get me wrong, I love the occasional formal night...but if you're on the entire wc you do an average of 2-3 a week and that's a lot after awhile. I prefer eating in the dining room at night rather then the buffet but by the time we got to Fremantle I was over formal nights.

Although it doesn’t sail around the world, it seems to provide a relaxing Grand Voyage to and from Australia. Being unfamiliar with Cunard and preferring smaller ships, a few issues trouble me. Will there be a lot of short-term (per segment) passengers, or are most of them on for the entire cruise? Are onboard activities sufficiently varied and engrossing to cope with so many sea days? How well do fellow Americans handle the suit and tie dress code and abundant formal evenings? How costly and adequate is the wi-fi/internet service? Is it easy to make use of the self-service laundry? Edited February 20, 2021 by Jim9310

As you quoted me, I'll try and help a bit although we book segments so can't help with any full voyage questions. I have no idea how much the internet is as we have sufficient allowances per segment with our tier level and I would say normally, the self service laundry facilities are excellent and very easy to access once you work out the quieter times, but who knows what the new world of cruising will be like. Social distancing isn't something the launderettes are noted for. I would say your fellow Americans are no different from other nationalities as far as the dress code is concerned and as for how many will be full voyagers as opposed to us segmenteers, I can't help you there other than to say normally, there is a large percentage of full world cruise passenger. Hopefully, those with a greater knowledge than I will be along to help you. All I will say is Victoria is a wonderful ship with many, many repeaters. We can't all be wrong.

The cost and adequacy of the wifi/internet service is not one of Cunard's strong points. They charge by the minute (no packages where you can pay for unlimited usage per day as on other lines). Here is what Cunard's pricing has been for wifi/internet. 30 minutes = $15 120 minutes = $45 (free for Cunard World Club Gold level) 240 minutes = $80 (free for Cunard World Club Platinum level) 480 minutes = $135 (free for Cunard World Club Diamond level) 960 minutes = $220 1,920 minutes = $330

We haven't done any world voyages, but I'll follow up my last comment about the wifi by saying the onboard activities are definitely one of Cunard's strong points. They are quite varied and prove highly engrossing for us during transatlantic crossings on QM2 (which of course are usually all sea days). That's one of the main reasons QM2 crossings have become our preferred type of voyage.
