Looking To Book Quantum Alaska May 2021

Recommended Posts

We are RCCL Diamond members but have never cruised on a Quantum class ship.  Lots of Oasis class which we love.  Looking at balcony maybe deck 11.  A couple of questions:  On the Oasis class the beds and couch alternate from one balcony cabin to the next so you can get the bed or couch next to the balcony. Is it that way on Quantum or are the beds at the balcony on all cabins?  also, any thoughts of favorite cabins?  Thanks.

Cabins alternate on Quantum class as well.  They follow the opposite pattern to Oasis class.

find a pair of connecting cabins and looking at them from the hall the cabin on the right will have the bed by the bath And the cabin on the left will have the bed by the balcony.

stay on decks 8 and up to avoid any obstructed views.  Several cabins gave larger balconies...look at the deck plans.

A little off topic.  I just read the Cruise Critic review of Quantum and they say it is setup for the Chinese taste.  How does that work when it cruises Alaska?  We are somewhat adventuresome but we don't want to drastically change our cruise style, especially not while doing Alaska.  Your input will be appreciated.  Thanks.

After some months doing cruises centred on the Chinese market we were on Quantum's repo cruise October 2019 which was almost entirely filled with passengers from the USA,Europe & Australasia, apart from the Noodle House catering was what you would expect to find on pretty much any RCI  cruise so no need to worry on that score!

Quantum and Ovation are close sisters with a few subtle differences.  A "Fish & Ships" restaurant on Ovation's pool deck is currently a "Noodle" restaurant on Quantum.  Part of the Music Hall is additional casino space on Quantum currently.  The Diamond Lounge is currently a "Golden Room" for high rollers (gambling).

It's not clear how they will utilize these spaces when Quantum returns to America.  Until she comes back we can only speculate.  It wouldn't be hard to convert the Golden Room back into a DL by swapping furniture.  I'm okay with a Noodle venue so that isn't a concern for me.    The Music Hall?  Who knows?

The rest of the ship is pretty identical between them.  Ovation also spent significant time in Asia before coming to Alaska.  When I sailed Ovation's first cruise in Alaska she had spent time in Australia so they already had the experience "westernized".

With a successful Alaska season in the books it will be very easy for them to take lessons learned and the supply chain order book from Ovation and implement it on Quantum.  They already know how much beer is consumed, how much steak, how much chicken, etc.  I'm booked on a May 2021 Quantum cruise and I expect it to be very similar to Ovation's first Alaska cruise in May of 2019.    I expect the food will be the standard Royal Caribbean food the rest of fleet offers outside of Asia.

It's not something I'm concerned about.

Thanks everyone

Don’t worry about the Asianised it will be coming to Australia after Alaska.

For me the best standard balcony is on deck 13 straight under the solarium and forward stairs. The forward elevators don’t get as busy and you are one flight of stairs to the solarium for a quick snack and breakfast.

Just to confirm I understand you correctly, cabin 11182 and 11588 should both have the bed by the bath and couch by the balcony, right?  I attached a screen shot.  Thanks.

Nope, in both those the bed is by the balcony.

11186 bed is by balcony

11184 bed is by bath

11182 balcony

11180 bath and so on

OOPS, glad I asked.  So I made the same mistake on 11588?   Looks like all of the bed by the bath cabins are booked.

Yes, apply the same pattern to the opposite side.

Within the pair the cabin that is on the right has the bed by the bath and this alternates every other cabin until you get to a non balcony cabin

On the site that I'm using, which I'm not allowed to mention, none of the bed arrangements are what I prefer.  I'm saving $700 so I can put up with it.  Just a preference not a requirement.  Thanks.

I just noticed how you spelled centered (centred) .  My immediate thought was either you're British or a careless American.  😀  I have been 61 years in California but was born in Scotland where I lived for my first 10 years.  Glad to see this forum reaches both sides of the pond. 👍 BTW, thanks for the input.

I was checking out Quantum in the Royal app for a Nov. date and noticed the deck plans in the app already have the "Casino VIP" converted to "Music Hall" and the "Noodle Shop" on the pool deck called "Splashaway Cafe".  Looking at the deck plans on the website it references the old Asia venues.

The Golden Room remains but that should be a pretty simple conversion back to a Diamond Lounge.

So it seems they have already started the westernization, at least in planning.

I hadn't thought to look at the app.  Sure enough you found what appears to be the latest deck plan.  Thanks.

That's disappointing, I for one was actually looking forward to the Noodle Shop 😕

Which means you have either 3 or 4 guests.  All Balcony cabins that have 3 or 4 guests will have the bed by the bathroom.  Cabins for 2 can have either configuration.

Unfortunately our Alaska cruise got cancelled.  🤕 Requested Lift and Shift but we haven't heard back yet.

The deadline was February 4th, I would call and see what is up.  We called to do our lift and shift the day the email came out and had a new invoice immediately.

I just thought to bring this topic back to life.  We did do a lift and shift to May 16, 2022.   Same cabin, same amenities, same price.  I sure hope things are better by then.   We also have a booking on Celebrity Edge in 8 days.  This requires travel from California to Ft Lauderdale.  With all the crazy airline, cruise line and general Covid issues, it looks likely we are going to cancel it. 😷  Sometimes I wonder how the cruise lined survived this.

There was this recent thread discussing Alaska travel.  I still don't have a good feeling about Quantum sailings this year.  Time will tell.
