Aplmac Posted December 29, 2020 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2020 It was a year of rough waters for Barbados’ cruise tourism sector but the world’s largest trade association is predicting better news in 2021. With the Caribbean remaining the most popular cruise destination in 2019, the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) says in its 2021 State Of The Cruise Industry Outlook Report that this is a positive for places like Barbados. It noted that “following a challenging year in 2020, new research shows there is resiliency and optimism heading into 2021”. Let's hope this pans out well. God knows 2020 was just dreadful.. JohninDC Posted December 29, 2020 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2020 I am hopeful, but not optimistic, about cruising in 2021. Cruises that do operate will have reduced numbers of passengers (and staff?), limited ports, and be restricted to cruise sponsored activities/tours. My best guess is that it will be at least 2022 before we see anything resembling pre-virus normal for cruising. 😢
LB_NJ Posted December 31, 2020 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2020 I think that by Dec. 2021, if the AstraZeneca vaccine works out, that things may be getting back to somewhat normal.
Aplmac Posted January 3, 2021 Author #4 Share Posted January 3, 2021 I asked my local Carnival-booking lady What's Up... I got this back.. Carnival is supposed to resume their BGI(Barbados) sailing from January 2022 (fingers crossed) but so far they have not posted any information on (what)ship -or itinerary. Hopefully we will see something soon! On her work computer, she is seeing Carnival Corp. booking schedule out into the future, so this news is coming almost straight from Source! What a grind! Rare cruisingxpert Posted February 18, 2021 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2021 I am hoping my Dec 1st cruise from Barbados is going to sail- I'm desperate to get back on the water again. Question for Aplmac. I'm looking at Yellow Bird Hotel, Infinity on the Beach or Sugar Bay all inclusive to do a pre cruise stay. Would you recommend any of these or do you have a better suggestion?

I'm not sure about Infinity on the Beach but I do know about Yellow Bird and Sugar Bay. Sugar Bar is run by friends of mine, it's in the Hastings area about a 10-15 min. ride to the Port, traffic depending. Yellow Bird's situation is a bit further out from the port (not by much) in the St. Lawrence Gap area, and is almost on the main South Coast Road. But nice all the same, just not as quiet as Sugar Bay (traffic?) Those first two pics show Yellow Bird hotel(in black and white) and the view from the hotel, looking out to St. Lawrence Bay. The gorgeous turquoise-waters shot, and the two trees at sunset are Sugar Bay.
Rare cruisingxpert Posted February 22, 2021 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2021 Wonderful pictures- so wish I was there. I found out Yellow Bird has no elevator and fair number of comments on Infinity that beach is wonderful but rooms are dated. I used to go to Barbados a lot but many many years ago - think Bert's Bar and the Abbeyville- I was so young😁 My taste in rooms has become more particular. I do like the South Coast. Sugar Bay looks very nice but I'm reading comments that going all inclusive isn't necessary. Again back in the day I think Flamboyant was one of the only a la carte restaurants on the island. Oh well I have time to decide - not arriving til end of November. Is there a must go to restaurant - shellfish of any description are my favourite. Really appreciate how you take the time to answer questions.

The local crowd also loves both restaurants! They are popular for a reason. Tapas has a turquoise lunch view too.

Alfredo Giovinne. I just like his restaurant, and always try to be seated upstairs although tourists/visitors probably prefer downstairs.
wrred31036 Posted September 7, 2021 #13 Share Posted September 7, 2021 Hello, Aplmac and cruisingxpert. My wife and I are booked for a Jan. 2022 cruise on the Grandeur. We plan on arriving early for a three night stay prior, assuming nothing changes in our plans or RCCL's. After lengthy looking I booked the Coral Mist for our pre stay. Any opinions, input or advice? My reservation is cancellable. We are 75 and look for comfort at a reasonable price. ????? Thanks, Bob
