Rare Peregrina651 Posted February 26, 2021 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2021 Let's start the conversation at a different point. We want to know where your heads are at. Are you asking about the Viking extensions because you would prefer to let Viking take care of you every step of the way (that's okay; your money, your vacation, your choice) or because you think that you are limited to Viking extensions if you book your air through Viking (you aren't) but would really prefer to make your own pre-cruise plans? We can, and probably will, talk about either scenario. Here are some threads that have talked about these extensions. I started a list when we booked Iceland's Majestic Landscapes for 2020: Viking Homeland Pre-Oslo & Bergen Railway Hello from Bergen (2019 Live thread/ lots of info about shorex taken) #9 great review of the Iceland pre/post extension Iceland - pre/post Viking cruise extensions
TayanaLorna Posted February 27, 2021 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2021 I will put my Bergen two cents in here. We did the Lyosen Island, Lyse Abbey Ruins and Fantoft Stave Church excursion with Viking. It was a beautiful drive to the boat dock, a pleasant crossing to the island, a nice walk to the spectacular home of Ole Bull and an excellent talk about his life during the house visit. Next stop was at the Abbey ruins with a brief walk and photo op at a picturesque location. Then on to the Fantoft Stave Church another unusual architectual gem. It was really a pleasant combination of art, music, culture, religion and architecture. The time on the bus went quickly with our very informative guide talking about different aspects of life in Norway. The tour also included a spin around Bergen same as the Viking Included. If you are going to be in Bergen a day or two before boarding your ship, don't bother with any of the Viking excursions for Mt. Ulriken, Mt. Floien, Mt. Floien hike or visiting any of the museums, fish market or the Bryggen. You can easily do any of this on your own as it is all within walking distance of where the ship docks or if you stay in a hotel near the Bryggen. You just need to do a little pre cruise research into what you are seeing, the history, where to go and how to get there.
