Mud_Shark Posted March 17, 2021 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2021 Noted a very slight decrease in the cost and port fees of one of our upcoming cruises. Called Princess and they confirmed, the Canadian Exchange rate dropped one point to 1.26 yesterday (Mar 16th 2021). Had to make a new booking to take advantage of it and cancel the previous. Doesn't save a ton of money, but hey, a few bucks is a few bucks. On our other 2 cruises, the cruise fare has increased so no savings to rebook at the lower exchange rate. Seems they are now adjusting the exchange rate by small amounts at a more frequent pace, so keep watching your fares. Don
Rare Lady Arwen Posted March 17, 2021 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2021 Thanks for the update. We booked at 1.27 so we’ll probably leave it for now and keep looking for lower exchange rate.
ringers0815 Posted March 17, 2021 #3 Share Posted March 17, 2021 We saved $376 on one booking. We will take it!

So it would appear. Still if one books in USD, don't have to worry about fare changes and losing out on exchange rate situation. Either charge to your USD CC, or to a CAD CC that doesn't charge an exchange rate surcharge. You can always buy USD at a good time like now and use it to pay off the USD CC for the cruise fare(s) at FP Date. You can book with Princess in USD, but even better to find a US TA that discounts the fare and save even more.
Rare ceilidh1 Posted March 18, 2021 #8 Share Posted March 18, 2021 This was the latest from Princess to TAs: Canadian currency exchange: $1 USD = $1.26 CAD The Canadian currency exchange rate is presently $1 USD = $1.26 CAD. The Canadian currency exchange rate is reviewed weekly and posted here by Princess as a courtesy to our travel advisor partners.

But the saving was still $376.12 so it must be something more than just the exchange rate. But we like any fare change in our favour.
TeaBag Posted March 18, 2021 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2021 Our TA, since it is in the US, charges in USD, so we cheer every morning as we hear of the positive change in the CDN $. Hopefully it will be up some more when FP time comes. 1.26 is so much better than 1.35!! Thank you Tony for being pleased for us. This will not only affect cruises either, so it's good all around.
