Christine Duffy on GMA Today - Vaccine Question

Recommended Posts

Wow we are hoping to work things out with the cdc but we dont have anything definitive. Nothing I can report. We are looking at ways to upload your vaccine information but there is always the old fashioned way of arriving at the port with your vaccine card. Wow I say again.

so she hinted yes vaccinated or did I hear her wrong?  I am old.

More than a hint that vaccinated cruises are the preferred path forward.

Wow, my cruise is Vista Aug 28th and although myself and daughter are vaccinated my 4 yr old granddaughter is not able. This is heartbreaking as I'll have to cancel, lose $650 OBC. Ugh

I had to upload my daughter's card to camp the camp system last week (plus its on her medical records you send as well)

my son has to upload his for Penn State (highly highly highly encouraged ) prior to coming on campus .

so... I know no one wants to do it but we may need to show proof. no one wants to disrupt a long 7 day cruise.  again, please be kind.

If Carnival can stay within the 5% unvaccinated range for passengers some might be allowed, I would think.

Carnival has been allowing people to move their cruises. Maybe they will move the obc. I wouldnt give up yet. Rcl is allowing kids under 12 to not be vaccinated on their nassau cruises. Though they have to be tested at boarding.

I've got fingers crossed as we saved up to purchase a grand suite. Daughter graduated nursing school and will be moving so this was our last vacation together. Literally heartbroken over this.

So i guess folks can stop the back and forth now.  Seems decided for this moment in time that startup will require vaccinations and then move later on to fully open again.

Honestly, it is great news (albeit not a surprise). based on the latest guidelines around masks and distancing for vaccinated guests, it seems that it will be pretty close to back to normal

Appears so, though not at all surprising for the first few cruises out of the gate and probably until the CSO expires. All bets are off come November 1, though.

That will open up a lot of cabins due to people having to cancel.  Should help reduce the amount of passengers greatly.

Couldn't the CDC extend or modify the CSO after 11/1 ?

I believe this to be great news. The chances of a cruise being shut down and returned to port is much less with only vaccinated passengers. Having a cruise cut short and the public relations nightmare that would follow could cripple the industry.

It could if HHS extends the National Emergency Declaration. No word yet as to whether that will happen. However, FEMA is rescinding it's Emergency Declaration mid-September and the TSA is also rescinding their mask order for airports and planes on September 13, which makes it much more difficult for the CDC to maintain that there is still a travel emergency that needs to be addressed through a CSO.

Yes. My guess is they will let it expire but replace it with something with a different name, and fewer, but more permanent restrictions.

and no kids at first.  She said "eventually" have families cruising onboard again.  So it sounds like they will start with teens and adults only and no kids for a while.  At least until November.

When the mask order is rescinded for airports and planes on Sept 13, will proof of vaccination be needed to fly?  Thanks!

We have a good idea of what Carnival wants to do, but they still seem to be in negotiations. They shouldn't have a problem getting vaccinated people to cruise. Maybe I'll get another casino offer?
