jeremybe Posted June 13, 2021 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2021 We were just able to book one of the July Iceland cruises - We have a deposit until tomorrow night - Looking at travel possibilities - Does anyone know what the latest time we can board would be? Is it possible to board at say 6:PM? Also for the return flight home - is a 10:30 AM flight realistic? We need to pick up our daughter at Sleep Away camp the next day and that seems to be our only option. Thanks for the help!!

We do know definitely that Viking is asking us to make return flights after 9 am so you should be good with 10:30 am. Don't know how late you can board under new protocols. However on our last cruise we did an all day private excursion with drop off at the ship and arrived at 7:30 pm. There were others who got in later. We don't have access to the itinerary, so I don't know if you overnight or sail embarkation day, but normally embarkation closes about 2 hrs before departure, as the pax/crew list must be finalised and sent to the local authorities. EJLobster Posted June 13, 2021 #4 Share Posted June 13, 2021 Only because i can say "been there, done that" may I ask - have you lined up someone to help if your daughter has a problem at camp? Otherwise, I wouldn't be so nosy, hah!

We need to pick up our daughter at Sleep Away camp the next day and that seems to be our only option. Thanks for the help!! I had already asked this question. Below is the response from Viking. 1) What is the earliest and latest time we can check in on the ship on July 17th? Embarkation begins at 11am. Since the ship stays in port overnight, guests may board as late at 11pm; however, if you plan on embarking that late, you must still check in with the ship so they do not mark you as "no shows". 2) What is the earliest and latest time we can leave the ship when we return on July 24th? The guests will be able to disembark after the ship clears customs. We are unable to give an exact time as the process will be determined by the port authorities. The guests should be leaving the ship sometime after breakfast and will be kept informed on board.
Redtravel Posted June 14, 2021 #10 Share Posted June 14, 2021 Viking often keeps ships in port overnight at embarkation and disembarkation. Smart move if guests have plane delays. It also works for people getting early flights out. Viking has woken us up very early to get us to early flights home. It works.
Queenie1603 Posted June 14, 2021 #11 Share Posted June 14, 2021 We are hopefully on this trip in August. Suggest you check with Viking as the Covid 19 protocols are very strict in Iceland and before embarkation. al

I wouldn't normally plan to arrive late on the day of the cruise, for fear of delays, but since the ship stays in port overnight perhaps it is less important. Cienfuegos Posted June 15, 2021 #15 Share Posted June 15, 2021 Viking is very good about arranging very early morning departures. On our Trades Routes cruise termination, we arrived in Barcelona the prior day. The ship remained in port over night. Guests with early flights were able to have an early, light breakfast after 5.30 am. You brought all your luggage with you. Dockside porters were available to help with luggage. Buses were waiting on the pier, and left at 6.am. Several buses, sent to the various departure terminals. We arrived before American Air's check in agents began work, so we waited a while. Okay, just make sure there is no confusion here, because we start and end in Reykjavik. We overnight in Iceland at the start of the cruise, Day 1 and Day 2 (departing 5pm on Day 2) At the end of the cruise, we arrive in port early morning on disembarkation day; there is no overnight in Reykjavik prior to dismebarkation. Viking has state clearly on the Guest Statement that we should not book flights that depart earlier than 9 am.
