mcrcruiser Posted June 26, 2021 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2021 (edited) For a long time heading up Slot Pulls & Craps Rolls as large groups but never get this casino rate deals .However ,with far less cruises & less casino activity ,Carnival gives us Casino deals .Imo ,it just does nor make any sense . You would think the Casino want to keep players playing by bringing them back aboard much like Las Vegas gives nice perks to regulars . So does any one have a good idea or even want to speculate why we as proactive in their casino never get a casino rate ? TIA Edited June 26, 2021 by mcrcruiser
AV8rix Posted June 26, 2021 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2021 NOBODY knows!! I mean nobody knows about the specifics of Ocean Players Club (CCL corporate casino subsidiary) rating/tiering system. Of the three corporate entities with gaming subsidiaries OPC is the most opaque. Although I don't cruise on either NCL or RCI, I have looked at the sites of their gaming subsidiaries (Casinos at Sea and Casino Royale respectively). They both are definitely more transparent about their tiering structure. I don't know why CCL is so secretive. It has been this way since I've been cruising on HAL and, so far, has never changed. msmayor Posted June 26, 2021 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2021 I think it's more about how much time one spends in the casino than anything else. My husband and I are not big gamblers by any means, but after our first HAL cruise we got on the 'casino list' and have received offers for the past 6-7 years consistently. We are in the casino every single day of the cruise, always make sure we have them run our card when seated at a table or playing video poker (no regular slots for us). We also get to know the dealers and casino host, and participate in blackjack tournaments. But our casino 'budget' is never more than $100 each per day, and we've never left it all on the ship. 9 out of ten times, our normal 'losses' only come to about $300 or so for the entire trip and most trips we break even or come out ahead. We're pretty disciplined gamblers - entertainment only.
DaveOKC Posted June 26, 2021 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2021 It really depends on the amount you gamble of course. IMO (thats all it is) you need to earn at least 1000 points in a week (Its either 1000 or 100, I cannot remember except its the level where you earn some free play). I am talking about slot play. Of course, you have to have your cabin key in the machine to record the play. You might want to read some ot the other posts on this board about the free cabin deals HAL is currently promoting to get a better idea.
ger_77 Posted June 26, 2021 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2021 To me it seems pretty random - DH and I spend the same amount of time and the same amount of money in the casino, yet when I try to make a booking using my mariner number, there isn't a casino discount. If I use DH's number, surprise, discount! It doesn't make sense, but it doesn't stop us from going back, which is what they want. LOL Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂

The casino favors slots over table games (IMO) and it ca also depend on the size of your bets. The amount you win or lose does not appear to come into consideration. but rather the amount of play (how much you put through the machines for example). Still, that is quite odd....... I like Video Poker, but the machines on the HAL ships have poor pay schedules, so I am not big on playing them. What I do is let my DW use my gambling "budget" and thus she plays more than usual. This seems to be working, as she now sometimes get free cabin offers and we get 10-30% casino discounts on most cruises (which can be a great deal if you are booking the higher level cabins and really want to pick a specific location (free cabin offers normally are for guarantees only).

Rare sambamama Posted June 26, 2021 #10 Share Posted June 26, 2021 I don't gamble at all, or barely gamble. Yet I have gotten designated for lower casino offers on cruises for some time, and I got an offer several months ago for a free 7 night casino cruise. It was a choice of several Caribbean cruises-pay the port tax, $75 free gambling money, free drinks in the casino, and pay $200 which is given back in shipboard credit for a inside cabin. As a solo having to pay supplements, I jumped on this. I have no idea how this designation happened-I regard it as a miracle!

I don't know how the cabin works I do know that they were not offered a suit. , it might depend on the type of cabin you had last cruise.

I do not think thats it. We just got offered a free Inside and have not cruised in an inside ever and always have done at least a Vista. I am fairly certain it is based on the amount of play you do. My friend who is a higher gambler than most gets Neptune offers, while the rest of us get Inside or at best a Verandah. Rare cruzin4us Posted June 28, 2021 #16 Share Posted June 28, 2021 I get casino offers all the time. HAL doesn't seem to be as generous as Princess. I've got 3 free balcony cruises booked at the current time. HAL is a 10 day Sea of Cortez, free balcony, free drinks in the casino. Princess however is more generous. The 2 booked thus far are: 7 day Mexican Riviera, free drink pkg, free gratuities, free WIFI and $1,000 free play. The other one is a 15 day San Diego to Hawaii roundtrip. This one offered free balcony, $500 free play, free beverage pkg, free gratuities and free WIFI. All we are responsible for is port fees and taxes. I gamble almost every night, I'm not a high roller, but I spend a good amount of time playing the slots. Sometimes I play tables. I'm not sure if I got all these offers because they were trying to get people to start cruising again, or if it was based on my play. Either way, I'm not passing up a free cruise 😃
golfbagger Posted June 28, 2021 #17 Share Posted June 28, 2021 Casino time is just about an everyday activity for us. There are many questions related to credits and playtime etc. Our best discounts generally happens when we have our TA mention our casino "habit" to the HAL representative while booking. Those free cabin promos must be part of a marketing arm of CCL? They are real, but you may not be able to select your own cabin? We used an on-line TA for our Feb. 2022, NS booking: got the cabin selection wanted, w/o any casino offer. Hoping now that maybe the casino will buy a drink once in a while.🤥

The Casino RATE lets you pick your cabin for a good discount of 5-30%, plus you get whatever promotion perks are being offered at the time. So, at times it can be a better deal to just take the discount, all things considered. Another approach is to book the OFFER and at the same time book the Club Orange deal. This can let you at least pick your cabin due to the upgrade you get (does not work for Neptune category - I tried!).
