I don't smoke anymore but I vape. It's much cleaner and doesn't smell bad and it smells enjoyable to SOME people around me. I would like a bar where I can go sit and vape / smoke and enjoy the air conditioning, out of the sun, out of the wind and have a drink and conversation. I am sure there are plenty like myself who would like that. I don't really gamble but I am glad the smoke free casino is out of the way and the casino where you can smoke is convenient.

I quite agree. Have been vaping for 10 years. Never get complaints. Even vape moderately in my cabin. Never a word said about it. Would like to see a casino bar where VAPING ONLY is allowed. Leaves no discernible odor from what many others have told me. Even get positive comments, "Mmmmmm, strawberry ! "

Hey Gary !

I'd guess, given the direction of public opinion and corporate positions  - you're going to be lumped together with smokers. Despite there being a big difference between what you emit vs. them. Somewhere out there you've no doubt caught the attention of many people when you've been vaping - but a VAST majority would never think to complain (at least directly to you).

Take care !

Well, that would be incorrect.  Very discernable odor.  I know smokers don't have a good sense of smell, but I do.  And I can smell a vaper right away.  So you're just fooling yourself if you think it is either undiscernible or pleasant for us non-smokers/non-vapers.  It is different from tobacco smoke, but still present and obvious.

Could this be a slow change to smokeless cruises?

I hope so. All the Casinos in NJ, NY, & CT are smoke free due to Covid. Something positive came out of this.

My thoughts on a closed in smoke free casino without a bar on a different deck than the Casino:

IMO, I think for passengers, it comes down to what you want more - to gamble or a drink or a smoke or the convenience of a cashier where you are.

Compare the tables or slots in Vegas and the constant beverage service to the cruise ship waiting  and waiting and waiting for someone to appear to take an order AND come back with it.  Then if you are fortunate to win and want to cash out - you have to go and find the cashier - who is in the very place you did not want to go in the first place.  Then there is the scenario that you are playing BJ and you are on a streak, but you really want a cigarette - that is not a decision gamblers or smokers want to make.

I am an ex-smoker (we are the worst!) - but I just can't see this being successful long term.

I think, long term, we'll see more and more casinos eliminating the option to smoke - just as with restaurants. I recall when restaurants took the plunge, I witnessed a few smokers make a public spectacle of the situation (vowing to, for all to hear, "never return to this place"). Well, I guess they either gave up going out to eat, or finally realized that such was the new normal.

I think casinos and smoking are tightly wound. Imagine a casino with no drinking allowed - probably not the most happening place in town either.

I'd imagine it will still take decades (yes, plural) before a significant majority of casinos are smoke free - but it's coming. Perhaps the trickiest part is there's always going to be another smoking sanctuary where someone can go - when their favorite place pulls the ashtrays. It may be less desirable (distance/games/etc), but it "will do", until they follow suit...

We're all merely spectators in the game.

I agree.  Sooner or later I think the large areas of casinos will be nonsmoking and they may have small smoker's lounges where smokers can go for a smoke break.  That will be nice.  Our office changed to nonsmoking years ago.  At first, we had a small smoking lounge and then later just had the smokers go outside.  They adjusted and would take their breaks outside the back door.

I am a nonsmoker, but not bothered in the least by vaping.

We've returned from the Breeze as well.  We played in both casinos but when we were in the "Casino Annex"  it was pretty empty.  Far from packed.  It did smell better, but lacked the excitement of the always crowded main casino.  Fewer waiters and no casino cage.  We preferred the main casino.  To each his own!

just like they won't say anything about the stinky vaping.🤢

I have never encountered a stinky smell from anyone vaping, unless it was the *special* vape.

I have, however, encountered people wearing so much cologne/perfume that I could taste it.  I probably shouldn't go around licking strangers.

Ben Gay by a couple on a cruise would gag you. They must have caked it on. In the theater you could smell them more than 15 isles away. In the buffet it was super bad. Moved to the other side of the ship to get away from that smell. All day every day you would know when they were near by. When they walked in the elevator we walked right out. Bet they got elevator rides by themselves.

All casinos on  Cruises out of Australia are smoke free.  In fact you can not smoke inside anywhere in Australia.  If you want to smoke outside of a restaurant you have to be a certain distance away from the doorway No smoking at the entrance of offices either

Has anyone given a thought to the fact that subjecting crew members or employees to full on second hand amoke is not good. Remember what happened in the 70s and early 80s when airplanes allowed smoking and the flight attendants brought this to court?

@chengkp75already addressed this: the very high prevalence of smoking in the crew's home countries means the crew members themselves are extremely likely to be smokers, thus negating the vast majority of potential "complaints".

Maybe one day, but not likely any time soon.
