seaman11 Posted July 17, 2021 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2021 (edited) Having a great time back on board however a nightmare at the steakhouse (1 hour 20 min ) to get apps. Too many tables squished together. Bad food quality. I walked out and went to dinner time and that was very unorganized. No real service just plop food down. I was ready for some hiccups but it was bad. Food was coming out pretty bad as well sadly. I did have a good steak on day 2. The lunch buffet is like staff meal quality. Now iv been on many ships and i know they have to work things out. But you would think options and quality is there. Now desserts have been excellent imo. 👌 full cakes in buffet and dinning room desserts were great so far. TNcruising02 Posted July 17, 2021 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2021 It sounds like they have a long way to go before they get back in the swing of things.
shipsandshores Posted July 17, 2021 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2021 Please continue to update. I am scheduled to sail in August and this is one of the things I was concerned about- cruising is back but are cruise ships ready to cruise with the level of service we are accustom to.

Imo they are not ready at all and its only 75 percent capacity. Should have started at 50% casino is having issues . But dining is a real struggle. Many issues with wrong billings to your account as well. Wifi snail slow. Not even worth getting imo. Takes up to 1 hour to send a text message. That said im not looking to find things im actually looking to have fun and enjoy cruising again. 😎 3
firefly333 Posted July 17, 2021 #5 Share Posted July 17, 2021 This falls in line with reports on other ships of plan on 2.5 hours for dinner no matter where you eat and steak not good quality, steak house overbooked. Others were happy to be back onboard, but said more or less the same. Fewer choices on buffet. Was guys good? If the burgers are still good I'll survive. I got a friend onboard and will see what he says when he gets home.
firefly333 Posted July 17, 2021 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2021 I'd also like to know about the onboard shops variety. I was thinking of buying a watch for instance with my obc.

I cancelled our September cruise out of Galveston when final payment was due last month, wanting to wait for reviews on the first few cruises after Covid. Your comments make me feel confident I made the right choice. I am still excited about our March cruise on the Breeze. I hope everything, especially dining issues, will be resolved long before then.

ray98 Posted July 18, 2021 #10 Share Posted July 18, 2021 I am willing to give them a couple of months. The main reason ships ran so efficiently is because of repetition, they did the same thing every day over and over. To serve 15k+ meals a day in a reasonable time frame required near perfection. Before the shutdown you had a core team in place and you only had to swap out individual players as needed when contracts ended. This has jumbled a entire new team together that has to relearn virtually every process all at the same time. 9

Part of the start-up problems may also involve supply chain issues.

I'm going to keep my expectations low for the first year or two. I am going to keep my expectations low too. My cruise is next month and it's hard to get too excited about wearing masks at every port on excursions. Thankfully, I am booked on the Mardi Gras so staying on the ship will still be fun. I have a balcony cabin too. I do regret not choosing a date in 2022 instead. I am not going on excursions if I have to wear a mask the entire time. crazy4themouse Posted July 18, 2021 #14 Share Posted July 18, 2021 We sail on Breeze in 11 days, and at this point I don't think I would care of I had to go back into the kitchen and cook dinner for myself. I just can't wait to be there!! I don't expect everything to be perfect at all - I know this has not been easy for them, and they're trying their hardest. It's all good. 😊 13

I'm on the Breeze in a couple of weeks and I hope they can get things ironed out. 😬 I've heard these sort of concerns so far quite a bit regarding clumsy food service so... nothing about bar service, thank god- I need something to hang onto- LOL Surprised about the steak house- that's a favorite of mine but I don't want an all nighter meal, ha! You are on the first sailing of that ship and surprised when service isn't clicking like usual?

quickrate Posted July 18, 2021 #18 Share Posted July 18, 2021 I think tolerance and understanding is going to be needed by all in the beginning. I'm sure the crew is working hard. You are fortunate to have Cookie as the cruise director. Besides being an awesome cruise director, he is a great entertainer as well and has a good heart. There is a heck of a deal between my vista and breeze bookings today I'm trying to decide. Probably after vista I might want a rest? Lol if it's as slow as reported. Squeezing another cruise in .. I cant decide. Need to get on a shop myself and decide.
BeachDiva101 Posted July 18, 2021 #20 Share Posted July 18, 2021 I just think Carnival should not have gone with 75% capacity straight outta the gate if they didn’t have the staff for it. They should have gone with a lower % starting out.

For all you know they allowed 100% and the ship didnt fill up. Just because approx 2900 booked and boarded doesnt equal carnival set a 75% capacity .. no one knows what capacity carnival is allowing.

tallyho8 Posted July 18, 2021 #24 Share Posted July 18, 2021 First cruise is no excuse for poor service. I was on the very first cruise, the Millennium on June 5 and after 50 cruises this one had the best service I ever had. Their food was fantastic both in the dining room and the buffet. And this was even coming from a foreign port that they never sailed out of before. You can credit poor food and poor service to poor planning and supervision. I am on the Mardi Gras in 20 days and I hope it is better then.

You may be disappointed then if your expectations are what you experienced with a single ship restarting pre covid., Every thread says dinner service is slow, some flaws to steak house, etc. Personally I'm in the group, just restart as best you can. Get me on the ocean.
