rsquare Posted October 3, 2022 #26 Share Posted October 3, 2022 Also for future reference, there is a lovely half-timbered 16th century mansion called Speke Hall (https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/speke-hall-garden-and-estate) that sits literally next door to Liverpool Airport. We walked from QM2 to the small Liverpool ONE (Canning Place) bus terminal about three blocks away and took a city bus to the airport, and then a short and inexpensive cab ride from the airport to the site. Nice tour of the building, and then fun in the maze in the garden; we actually got to the end without cheating, but it wasn't easy. You can easily spend the best part of a day on-site and travelling to and fro.
sowhat33 Posted April 6, 2023 #27 Share Posted April 6, 2023 Choosing between Chester and Port Sunlight? Any thoughts?
gumshoe958 Posted April 6, 2023 #28 Share Posted April 6, 2023 (edited) There’s more to see in Chester but you could actually do both - Port Sunlight’s on the train line between Liverpool & Chester so you could easily get off, look around for an hour or so then continue on to Chester. The trains are very frequent and the Liverpool cruise terminal is only a 5-10 minute walk from the nearest station (James Street). Rare Harters Posted April 6, 2023 #29 Share Posted April 6, 2023 (edited) Chester without a doubt. I live about 45 minutes drive from the city and it was my county town until we stopped having such a thing. See my post#13 for ideas what to do in the city. Port Sunlight is interesting and has a nice small art gallery but the "visitor experience" is limited. Edited April 6, 2023 by Harters
