There is one major difference in the TA OBC and the ones you get directly from the cruise line or shareholder. We’ve gotten OBC from the TA  on every cruise we’ve taken and every time it was refundable. Whatever was left, in most cases all of it, was refunded to our credit card a day or two after we got home.

My experience with shareholder OBC has not been easily converted.

OOPS!!!  My posting should have read:  "my experience with shareholder OBC has been not been difficult to convert/use".  I have not yet tried to use it in the casino, but have used it in the Duty Free shop, the other shops onboard,  have put it towards an excursion and for extra tips for staff..

How far in advance of the cruise can you apply?  We are sailing the first week of April.

So I applied approximately 1 month ago for 11 cruises we have booked between this Christmas/NYE to April 2024, both included.  It took a week plus, but I have been awarded all eligible shareholder OBCs

Just realize that you always need to check onboard that everything is correct.  We missed some of our OBC, along with our shareholder's credit which took several days to reinstate; you really need to understand the codes, along with the accounting system. Being in a suite helped immensely, because there are so many new-news and it takes time away from your cruise.  Applying for it and actually getting it, so it does not fall off are two separate entities.

Wow. 3 hrs 3 min. That’s how long it took for my RCL shareholder OBC to be granted when I sent emails this afternoon requesting the credit for my two new bookings that I just made. They were for 2024 and 2025 sailings.

That's been our recent experience, going out to April 2024.  Very prompt response 🙂

Following up on my prior posts. I submitted the request with the correct and requested information at least 3 more times (cruise info and date and stock broker statement showing 100 shares sent via email, fax, and web form) before the cruise. I think I submitted 10 requests over 3 months.
And no response.

Fast forward to the cruise. I asked the Suite concierge to check into it for me.  Within 2 hours I had the shareholder credit posted to my account.

I swear that the shareholder OBC folks shoreside process exactly 10 requests a day and then delete all others. I can’t believe that there’s any other explanation. LOL.

I have another cruise in April that I will be submitting for.  Wish me luck.

So, if I’m reading your comment correctly, you applied for and received the RCCL stockholder credit for cruises into 2024.  I usually make the request about 3-4 weeks in advance of a cruise.  I am surprised they would grant the OBC going out 2 years, basing it upon your current stock holding.  What if you were to sell between now and when the cruise takes place?

Yes.   I had 9 future Cruises booked go out as far as April of 2024 (B2B Sydney to HNL and HNL to Vancouver)  applied for all at the same time using the Web Submission Form.     I received 9 individual emails back with all the OBC's applied.

I had always done the same as you but someone in this thread said they applied for all their cruises so I tried also.   If you were to sell your shares I doubt they would ever know the difference.

I have enjoyed the RCCL shareholder credit for about 20 years.  I didn’t realize that so many others are receiving the credit.  Anyone have an opinion as to how many cruisers are shareholders?

I've encountered others on Celebrity ships who take advantage of the shareholder OBC.  Given the demographics on board I would not be surprised if at least 10% own RCL stock.  I've never owned more than the 100 shares but between price appreciation & call premiums I've always made money with it.

June of 2019 they changed the rules so the shareholder credit can be combined with most promotions.   Prior to that if you selected any perks or had any other promotion other than onboard booking it would be denied.   Not the case anymore.   I've have almost 20 approved since the restart.

I sold my RCL stock at the start of Covid, as the price was going down, and it seemed like every cruise I tried to apply it to.....was not "combinable with other offers". Has this changed? If so, I'll buy it again.

Yes it has changed.  Now offers can be combined i.e. when X offers OBC with your booking, a shareholder OBC will simply be added to your onboard account.

Unless you buy stock when it was in the 70's like I did....:classic_wacko:  Will take another 40 cruises to break even.

You are looking at this wrong. The money you used to buy 100 shares is an investment you can sell back at any time. No different than any other investment . The cabin credit are just a bonus.  I purchased 100 shares for $33 per share. It is now worth $59 per share I have made $260if I sell it.
