Carnival stock is up over 7% today. Not sure this is registering yet.

 

Part of me wonders if cancellations are what they are hoping for. Personally, I don't think 11 is all that bad of an outbreak at face value. I can't help but think they realize they were sailing too full and are "soliciting volunteers" to get down to the 60%ish that other cruise lines are sailing around.

I don't really understand this. Most of us are 99% sure that there will be covid positives on every single cruise. I would be shocked and amazed if there were 0 cases. And most of the people on this board right now are cancelling because of new protocols, not because there are a few positive cases on the ships.

I'm not sure what you define as an outbreak. Right now, almost every cruise ship sailing out of the US has higher than 0.1% of passengers testing Covid positive.

I know! It was great. I didn't say I dumped it first thing this morning.

But I did dump it this morning.

Either way, one up day doesn't mean it's going to keep going that way.

So assuming they were only at 50% capacity, 11 out of 2000 is still 0.00559%. Not exactly what I would call an outbreak....

Have you seen the news.  As an example the number of positive tests July 1st in North Carolina was 330.  August 1st 3,300 positive tests.  The Delta variant is a game changer.  There is a huge outbreak going on across the country right now and it is ripping through the unvaccinated population and filling the hospitals back up with Covid patients.

I am ok with wearing the mask in some areas of the ship, and with the test, I am fully vaccinated.  I went to Hawai with my family including my Grandson, and we had to do a test within the 3 days, upload it, and fill out a health travel form.

At the Hotel, we had to wear a mask indoors unless eating, on the tours we had to wear a mask, they allowed us to briefly take it off for pictures and if we were at the beach, outdoors not in a crowd.

We had a great time!  My Grandson still talks about the trip everyday, he loved every minute.  I would not take him on a cruise as yet, so we did a land vacation.  But everywhere you travel, especially in the Caribbean, the Islands, Vegas will require a mask in some places.

     Vaccinated cruises are available for guests who have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to embarkation day and have proof of vaccination. Additionally, effective August 14, 2021, fully vaccinated guests must present the negative results of a COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) taken within three days of their embarkation.
     For example, if the sailing is on Saturday, the test may be taken any time from Wednesday through Friday. Guests may also take the test on the morning of embarkation so long as they are guaranteed to receive their test results before their time of check-in.

We don't know just how bad any of them are yet.

A ship can be yellow and not have ANY covid cases on board.

 

In addition, if a person on the ship has symptoms and they can't prove it isn't covid, it is assumed to be covid. e.g. an inconclusive test.

No opinion of your analysis but 11/2000 = 0.0055 then to convert to % you MULTIPLY by 100, so 0.55%

We ordered from them 6 total tests for $150.  Self administered at home via video chat.  They provide proof via their app in minutes that you can show as proof of a negative test result.  This is also accepted by several major air carriers as proof if you need to return home to the US from abroad.  We planned on taking them with us next month when we sail on the Pride just in case something happens and we needed to fly home.  Glad we bought them as we now have them for this new requirement.

 

I received them the day after i bought them, VERY fast shipping times.

 

One Note: These test are only good through January.  Their site says 12 months from manufacturing date, what they fail to disclose is that they made all the kits in January 2021, so no matter when you order the kit is only good til January 2022.

There is some questions as to the acceptance of the eMed test.  Here are more details.  I still believe that this is admissible, you are showing proof of a negative test in an app by an FDA authorized process by an authorized provider.  But as with anything this could be denied if you read the post from Carnival below.  I believe what they are referring to in this post is you showing you with a test you administered and showing them a test kit with a negative result which is not what this is.  But again, be careful and do your research first.  If you have no other options this may be atleast a viable solution.

 

What kind of proof of testing will Carnival accept?

Acceptable proof of PCR/antigen COVID-19 testing is as follows:

• Laboratory test record
• Digital certificate
• Healthcare record

The results must show:

• First and last name
• Date of birth
• Type of test
• Date and time the sample was taken
• Test result is stated as "NEGATIVE" or "NOT DETECTED"
• Laboratory or testing site, and/or healthcare provider details are stated

No self-tests will be accepted and if there is doubt as to the authenticity or validity of the test, and the healthcare provider is not able to be contacted for verification purposes, embarkation may be denied

We're booked on Mardi Gras 12/11/21 and 3/12/22.  Just booked Carnival Magic 8/26/21 yesterday morning before the mask/testing news came out.  We're not thrilled but we pouted for a few hours and decided we're making the best of it.  We cancelled a trip to NOLA because of their mask mandate and booked Carnival Magic instead so I guess you could say we jumped out of the frying pan into the fire.  Whatever, we'll deal with it and have fun!

You are correct - it is not on their website, but it was specifically addressed by John Heald in a facebook posting yesterday. The following is part of his posting:

 

With regard to testing can I just confirm again that if you are fully vaccinated you can get a rapid antigen test done by places like CVS and pharmacies. If you are unvaccinated you need to get a PCR test.

Home testing results are not permitted

I think it would be very helpful here even if you’re not cruising for people to post underneath where they would get a rapid antigen test or an antigen test done where they live and the cost. Posting directly underneath here I think will help people see all the different options they have.
