Just curious fellow cruisers ...

Regarding today's announcement requiring a negative Covid or antigen test, along with revised onboard mask requirements, are you planning to:

A.  Proceed with your cruise

B.  Cancel your cruise

C.  Undecided at this point

Thank you for your input.  We are undecided, and frankly struggling with this.

A.

proceeding with my cruise in late september.

We're undecided about our Dec. 3 cruise on the Koningsdam.  We're fine with the pre-cruise testing.  While we're very pro-mask, the idea of having to wear one for much of a week-long cruise is not appealing.  On the other hand, we REALLY want to get back out to sea.

Agree with you completely. But will be cancelling our Eurodam Dec 5-29 cruises due to masks and BTB questions

I have and hopefully someone will have an answer.

you also could pose the question under the port city line, I didn't look but I'm sure San Diego is listed

We have pretty much decided that we are going.   As I read the HAL protocol to my sister, she said she'd feel more protected on the ship than she does at work.  She has several co-workers who refuse to be vaccinated and refuse to wear masks.   And, it is a dental office.   Disaster brewing.

We can deal with the pre-testing and I was going to take my masks anyways.  I really enjoyed not having a cold last year.   I'd like a repeat on that one, please.

We're sailing in 12 day. Mask are not mandated, it is strongly encouraged indoors, required in elevators and indoor entertainment areas, shops, casino when not eating or drinking. I'll just make sure I'm eating or carrying a drink a lot(or at least look like it). Not going to shop or the casino. Shows OK mask. I just really need a break from caregiving and everyday same ole, same ole. Mask in airports are a good idea anyway, just couldn't be bothered before. Pat

Well, after much discussion, we have decided on "A", and will take our planned Alaskan cruise in September.

Factors in our decision ranged from:

-we're sick of staying home

-covid could get worse

-covid could get better

-masks? what masks?

-we need a Tamarind fix

-our house has lousy bartenders

Thanks, syesmar! Will give it a try. I was at Tampa Airport yesterday for my Global Entry interview and the darn eyeglasses-fogging drove me nuts.

FYI, We also have had over a year of glasses fogging up. We found this about two weeks ago and no more fogging...ZEISS Fog defender system......purchased at Amazon.

Last week we were 95% going, Then "The" email came and we were 70% not going. Now we are totally and completely 100% undecided. Scheduled for Sept 11th Alaska. ....Cruising is relaxing, this is now not as relaxing. The pre-test is a pain but we figure we can get the rapid test in Town on the 8th, fly to Seattle early on the 9th and be ready for embarkation on the 11th...While many are fine and used to masking we have great difficulty in that area. And I am not talking about opinions about masking as that is not for this venue. So the thought of masking onboard for 7 days is difficult enough but not knowing if we will have to mask on-shore is a whole other area.

Can anyone tell us what the pax had to deal with in Juneau today as far as masks in vans, buses,  enclosed catamarans, shopping, etc?

That’s a good point. My only less-than-enjoyable cruise was affected by cold, wet weather but mostly by spending several days in the room feeling crummy from a cold shared with my DH. Seems like the cold virus has always spread easily on ships.

From the various live threads, masking is definitely required onshore.

I just sent the request for cancellation to our TA today. It was a cruise to South America/Antarctica. As much as I really want to go. I am concerned about a 22 day cruise so far from home, IF we test positive at some time in the cruise. Wearing a mask wouldn't be so bad when you are in cold weather but it's just the concern of being in countries that have had such issues with Covid (like the USA hasn't) that you just don't know what kind of care you would get if needed. Maybe 2023...

This is us, we're completely on the fence now and it ticks me off that 99% of this wouldn't be necessary if people would get vaccinated, I feel like we're the ones being punished; the cruise lines are removing fully vaxed people who test positive from the ship, and then quarantined?  Totally unfair, they can isolate people until they return to Seattle, they shouldn't be disembarking people in Juneau.

You should be concerned, God only knows where HAL will dump you off the ship.

Not going.    Not wearing a mask at sea

I have always enjoyed your “ live” trip reports. Thanks for being so generous with your time.
I like you will not cruise with a mask.

That's the issue for DD, he's afraid he won't enjoy the cruise; incidentally they don't have this mandate on Millie, in the trip reports I'm reading I'm not seeing masks in the pictures, unless they are removing them only for that purpose.

The challenge is that the covid situation is a moving target.  No masks can change on a dime, as can other restrictions.  Conversely, some restrictions and/or requirements can be eased.

The big unknown is what happens regarding covid requirements, on board environment, and itinerary stops  between the time one makes the final payment and when the cruise departs.

Had a conference call with our travel companions and we have all decided to cancel Alaska for September. So much uncertainty makes it no longer fun to anticipate the cruise. I might feel a little bit better about it if HAL were more forthcoming about the yellow status and what really is going on with positive cases. I’m letting our aft-facing balcony on deck six go ☹️

I guess we will keep our flights until the last minute. Maybe if six weeks from now, things are looking better, we could re-book.

Curious where you've heard passengers are being disembarked in Juneau.   Would like to know more about this.   Our Alaska cruise is coming up and still undecided.

From our experience masks are encouraged ashore and “required” indoors.  In practice most of the store employees were not wearing a mask.  We followed the lead of the shops.  Hardly anyone wore a mask outdoors.
