Our Mardi Gras Halloween cruise is our first back since right before the shutdown early last year. How is the mood onboard? Do you feel safe? Do the restrictions put a big damper on your enjoyment? I really want to go, but am getting a bit of family pressure to cancel. If the cruise is still enjoyable, then I will go! I would be lying if I said this one was as good as the Horizon last month, with no mask restrictions. I definitely felt completely safe on the Horizon because it was the first cruise back. With this being the 2nd cruise and the Mardi Gras already in a code yellow, it has to be in the back of your mind. The mask has not really bothered me as much as I thought it would. I am using the mask in motion 100% and following all the rules. The biggest hinderance on this cruise are kids that I know are not vaccinated ( clearly not 12 years old ) running around with no mask and no supervision. That should not be as much of an issue with school back in session in October. And in 2 1/2 more months , who knows how big an issue Covid will be. Clearly Covid will always be with us in some capacity … but in time hopefully it will be less of an issue. 1

Totally agree and hope that cruising will continue without interruption while they work things out.
Vet_Ag_89 Posted August 12, 2021 #53 Share Posted August 12, 2021 Just back from the breeze. They encourage mask wearing throughout the inside of the ship, and were very strict about wearing masks in the buffet and walking to your table in the main dining room. The sip and cover signs were in the casino, theater, and comedy club. The comedy host on the breeze did a good job of making announcements before the show started, and most were compliant. Of those who were not, the comedy club host would occasionally go around and ask for a passenger to please put on their mask. I never saw someone get on the elevator without a mask, everyone was very respectful there.

I am not a fan of masks, especially for children, but since the cruise lines are clear about the mask requirements for unvaccinated children then the parents should be responsible enough to make sure their children follow the rules. I think the crew members should escort the children to guest services and page the parents. It's unacceptable for people to break the rules regarding covid protocols on the ships. I don't like wearing a mask, so I am choosing to wait until next year to cruise. But anyone who cruises now should have enough respect to follow the rules so the cruise lines don't get shut down. 9

The Dream isn't sailing yet, so we'll have to wait and see. I am on the Magic right now. They did announce that both casinos are open -- smoking and non-smoking. (They are even on different decks.) Just to answer your question. 🙂 Also, as far as enforcement goes right now on the Magic... There isn't much. We wear are mask and it appears to be much more often than most. We've ridden in the elevators many times already with people who were not wearing masks. They are not wearing them even in crowds on the Lido deck pool area (I don't mean IN the pool, of course, but even for any gatherings there). There DOES appear to be a guy standing at each entrance to the buffet -- he may be reminding people to wear their masks as they enter, but I couldn't say for sure. I can say that, once inside, lots of people are in the buffet lines without their masks one and I've seen no one be told to mask up. 2

Fredric22 Posted August 15, 2021 #61 Share Posted August 15, 2021 I just got off the MG and I still had a great time, even with the mask requirements. I do think Carnival is a bit inconsistent on where the mask was needed though. Sometimes signs would be posted outside a restaurant one day and the next day they were gone. I can understand "sip and cover" in the casino but I really don't enjoy doing that in the theater for a prolonged period of time. I think once "seated" someplace you should be able to take off your mask, regardless. With a bit less capacity (maybe then can move to 50% or 60% for a couple of months) and increased show times, I think Carnival can easily say give yourself a seat or two of separation while in shows so you can remove your mask. Even though the effectiveness of everyday masks is minimal at best, I can understand using them in elevators. I did see "wear a mask while dancing" sign and I did not see anyone actually doing that. Honestly, that is just not going to happen. Perhaps they could say "dance with your own party" and that might be a bit more realistic. Or I would have liked to see more events outside on lido deck where masking and distancing wouldn't be an issue anyway. Why not have the DJ outside a few nights instead of in the tiny nightclub? I think the masks are more to look like they are "doing something" than any type of real safety. I do think the testing makes sense given the high case loads currently and hopefully that will be enough to really curb the majority of cases that were able to sneak on the ship. Between the increased testing and vaccinations hopefully masks can once again be taken off and not put back on until leaving the ship.
