Yeah and people on the NCL board were trying to decipher if NCL would pay for your quarantine expenses LOL yeah right. Crystal passengers were told they were on their own for paying their hotel and food at Grotto Bay and these people are paying $$$$ for this cruise not some $800 inside cabin on a mass cruise line.

Well...all those passengers paying $800 that you're looking down your nose at just happen to be covered by an NCL reimbursement policy.

As they say at the poker table, read 'em and weep:

https://www.ncl.com/sail-safe?intcmp=pdt_sl_SAILSAFEVAC

Guests who test positive for COVID-19 and those travelling in the same stateroom, will be denied boarding.

If you are denied boarding due to a positive COVID-19 test at embarkation, the cruise line will coordinate and cover costs for travel arrangements for you, and those traveling in the same stateroom, if they are also denied boarding. Norwegian Cruise Line will assist with applicable expenses related to any mandatory quarantine that are not covered by a guests travel insurance only if the guest provides proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test taken within 72-hours prior to their sail date. Proof of negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test taken within 72-hours of sail date must show guest name, date of birth and date the test was taken in order to be eligible.

"assist with" is pretty non-specific.  Floating you a loan could fit that term.

Yup exactly, we could pay for your cab ride to your quarantine hotel would fit that narrative. Where as Celebrity says we WILL fly you back on private transport if you test positive on our cruise ship.

There was a posting on the NCL boards here from someone whose family member tested positive at the pier in Alaska for the Encore. NCL put them up in a hotel at NCL’s cost and covered $100 per day in room service costs.      That’s real coverage.

I don’t know if they would treat Bermuda quarantine different from Pier quarantine in NY in this case.

It’s also interesting that the Bermuda travel auth form has this wording:

>>If you test positive at any time, you must self-isolate on the cruise ship as directed by Bermuda's Chief Medical Officer in consultation with the ship's medical staff.

and NCL’s site has wording around room quarantine for the remainder of the cruise. Quarantine in Bermuda isn’t listed anywhere as a possibility…..

Onboard Breakaway now. Having fabulous cruise. At officer presentation today they said about 25% of passengers arrived without Bermuda TA completed resulting in delay in leaving. They had Bermuda authorities there assisting with process and worked right up until 9pm processing folks. Not sure how many did not make it because of this. General Manager said there were lots of meeting going on at Corporate and they are committed to improving process. We’re at about 50% capacity with 1859 passengers. 1500 crew or 90%.

Curious, anyone know how many passengers onboard this week?

Per their Roll Call - one of the CC regulars posted the headcount, per ship's captain ... about 1,300 souls on the Sept 26th sailing.  That's about 30% of its typical occupancy (4,300 to 4,600 but could be higher/closer to 4,900+ for peak/holiday cruises that's fully booked & sold out)

Assuming that crew counts are near normal, it's better than 1:1 ratio ... nice & mucho personal attention everywhere ... and, they are still posting live & blogging, nice to have the unlimited satellite WiFi package

P.S.  interesting that results from the Upgrade Advantage bidding success were not seen/read or reported here. as there should be plenty of vacant & unsold cabins and easy to maintain social distancing 😆

Thank you for the update!  Have you gotten your test results back yet?  Sure hoping you all don’t have some of the issues that Crystal did!  (I’m back to back on 10/10 and 10/17. Can’t wait!)

Where exactly is this that people are being forced to wear tracking devices??

As I understand it, Crystal requires all passengers to wear the bracelets.  Tracks exactly where you are at all times and a red light goes on when you’re less than six feet from someone.  They use the data to see if you were in close contact with someone testing positive.  A number of these folks were escorted off of the ship into quarantine despite testing negative.  Look for the thread on the Crystal board.  No thanks.  I don’t want one of those devices.  Ive been triple vaccinated.  Everyone on the ship is vaccinated.  If we do somehow catch it,  put us in our cabins, we’re not going to die and neither is any vaccinated person we come into contact with. Taking a vaccinated person that tested negative off the ship and putting them into quarantine because the device said they were in close contact with a vaccinated person that tested positive is a bit over the top in my opinion.

The negative close contacts were tested again this morning and allowed back on the ship.

I believe it was the local authorities in Bermuda who removed the passengers, not the ship.  A cruise line wouldn’t have any authority if the Bermuda government decides such action is necessary.

Correct. These were Bermuda protocols being followed. They consider 5 or more cases an outbreak. We had 6 positives total.

Agreed.  I understand that and agree with that the local authorities have the jurisdiction.  But there’s such a thing as common sense.  I’m anxious to see if there are any positives on the Breakaway and how they handle it.  There’s a huge difference between 200 passengers and 2000.

Bermuda has had very strict rules in place since they reopened for tourists.  The protocols they set for cruise ships is one reason why some of the major lines such as Royal, Celebrity and Carnival have not been cruising there this summer.

Now that cases are increasing in Bermuda I suspect their prime minister of health is doing what he believes is the right thing to do to protect his citizens.

There are so many covid rules for everyday life that just dont make sense but yet we are stuck following them for the most part.

I agree.  I will follow the rules.  Have been for 18 months.  But it’s time to change some of the rules - at least for vaccinated people - both in Bermuda and at home.  😃

Before You Travel/Prior to Leaving Home:
• All guests must fully complete online check-in and select a port arrival time, which will become available as soon as 21 days and up to 3 days before the cruise embarkation date.
• Due to limited capacity in the terminals at the cruise port of Manhattan, port arrival times selected during online check in will be strictly enforced.
• If arriving at the cruise port directly from the airport, please keep the following in mind when selecting a port arrival time:
o Driving distance from LaGuardia Airport is approximately 50 minutes.
o Driving distance from John F. Kennedy International Airport is approximately 90 minutes.
o Driving distance from Newark Liberty International Airport is approximately 90 minutes.
 Luggage tags must be attached to each piece of luggage when arriving at the port to expedite the baggage drop-off process.
• Bermuda requires that all guests take a COVID-19 PCR test within 96-hours prior to their sail date.
• All guests must register on the Bermuda Tourism website and upload their negative test result within 72-hours of embarkation. The registration form can be found here.
o A travel authorization number will be issued by Bermuda once approved.

• As a reminder, all guests are responsible for checking on travel restrictions and complying with all requirements. NCL recommends for all guests to follow, and where possible, sign up for notifications from their local government on international travel regulations that may prevent, restrict, or require additional documentation when traveling to another country for embarkation or during their cruise.
Upon Arrival

All seems perfectly clear if you read it and followed directions.

We have not. Others reported they did. But then we didn’t get text or email at the pier either. Just heard our numbers called. I was escorted to medical yesterday and retested because pcr at pier was inconclusive. They called me about an hour later to say it was negative.
