Ships excursion vs wandering on your own

Does MSC require ships excursions to get off the ship in port? Or can we just wander around?

 

If an excursion is required does this include the private island?

As of now (OCT 2021), you can visit ports on your own. That can change anytime though so keep current.  Although the private island IS private, it is still in the Bahamas and can be impacted if the government sets up new rules.

I think this depends on the port...certain European and Caribbean ports require a ship tour

Which Caribbean ports require a ships tour? I'm not aware of any on the MSC itineraries.

Bahama ports.

Families traveling with children under 12 must book excursions through ship for unvaccinated guests. ( to insure “bubble”)

Adults can book the Fully Vaccinated excursions from ship or on their own.

On the 10/2 sailing we were told this for ocho rios
