Rare Tree_skier Posted October 26, 2021 #51 Share Posted October 26, 2021 (edited) Thanks for starting this thread. I never occurred to me to leave my half used Dove antiperspirant, Preparation H and Harry's razor blades behind when leaving my cabin on the last day. I'm sure the cabin attendant will appreciate it so much. Edited October 26, 2021 by Tree_skier 2 2

Every been to some of the local shopping centers in some of these ports? By the way, there aren't any Dollar Stores in the Caribbean, Bahamas, Cozumel, Costa Maya, or Grand Cayman that I know of....... Who said these people are reducing their gratuities? Most, if not all, give MORE than what's requested by RCCL. Most crew members who work for housekeeping have little free time until it's their regular day, and if that doesn't coincide with a port day, then they have no opportunity to buy off-ship (again, thank goodness for Amazon). What is your cruise history? Where have you sailed? Obviously you have missed the numerous posts in many threads just like this (and there were a few in this thread itself) that say "it doesn't cost a whole lot to go to the dollar store and pick up a few things before you cruise." The funniest post I ever read was on a Disney cruise ship board where a lady said she painted rocks for the crew and how thrilled they were to get them. Rocks. It just goes to show what incredible professionals the employees of the different cruise lines are. I have the utmost respect for them. 2

Rare Tree_skier Posted October 26, 2021 #56 Share Posted October 26, 2021 You want to do something for the crew... crack open that wallet and tip more. Amazon is amazing! Crew can get anything and everything they need every week they are back in port. If you can think it Amazon can deliver it. 2

We also put in positive comment cards. And for those worrying about time off for crew, if you put in a positive comment card, they can win more shore time.

Fact-based, please. Actually, the CL guy on Serenade told me he only got to get off the ship once a month. So there is some truth to that. RC chartered a bus and took them all to Fred Meyer in Juneau for a shopping extravaganza. It was strict. They weren't allowed to any where but the store or face dismissal. That being said, he said he got a lot of stuff from Amazon. We tipped cash. I think he appreciated that more than my half used travel size box of Qtips. 🙂 1

Heck, charities won't accept open or used products. Why should they?

I watched a small bit of one of her videos. She's in a balcony cabin and is filming the laundry form. I'm thinking she has more perks than the assistant waiter. Their parents will meet her as guests on the same ship. That is not a typical ship employee. I agree that cash is always best. But the one time that my phone had endless internet in port (2013) and a waiter could connect to my phone to talk to his family was one of the best experiences ever. He walked around endlessly with a tray full of stuff with his hidden phone, talking to his wife and kids, who waved hello. Longest lunch ever 🙂

When they first brought the crew back on board, they had to quarantine for 14 days. Because they were not allowed to leave the cabin for 14 days, everyone got a balcony cabin at that time since there were no customers on board yet. She is now in a small, windowless, crew cabin, sharing it with another performer. One of her most recent videos details what and where they are allowed to go to on the ship. Fact-based, please. Watch Chris Wong's videos- so far, he's only been able to get off at CocoCay. No other port. And he's been on the ship for many months (one entire month spend in his cabin by himself). I get that you and others don't care- that's fine. But why the vitriol for people who want to do something nice for another person? What makes it such a big deal to you if your neighbor wants to bring chips on a ship for their room steward? IMHO, the time wasters here are the ones actually trying to make arguments that one should do a darned thing. As opposed to being nice, and keeping the option of working on a cruise ship more appealing. But if you want to waste your time trying to convince people to not be nice to other people- go for it. Just make sure you ID yourself getting on a ship so that we can keep a wide berth. I want to have fun.

Many just don’t think a half used tube of toothpaste and your leftover tampons is any kind of great blessing to the hard working staff aboard the ship. Cash is King! 8
Rare jean87510 Posted October 26, 2021 #75 Share Posted October 26, 2021 I'm laughing because I must have offended someone posting that we should have the check in app include a section for what books to bring for the crew. 🙂
